About the role

 

The Database Administrator III is responsible for the integrity of all business‑supporting databases and processes with the added responsibility of comprehensive database systems support, and a comprehensive knowledge of the data stored.  This includes database design; table definition design and creation; ETL (Extract Translate and Load) design and development using Microsoft SSIS; end-to-end data pipeline design and automation using Azure Data Factory; database maintenance, tuning, backup, and upgrades.  Collaborate and mentor application and database development staff with database design, automation, and validation of data load routines involving application databases.  Architect, create, and document database designs, schemas, and data flow diagrams. Participate as a stakeholder in the project management methodology as it applies to database technology, storage, or warehousing.  Work closely with senior members of the team.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Organized individual who constantly demonstrates responsibility, good judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness, and is able to work under the leadership of senior team members.
  • Provide database leadership to junior team members, and oversight or mentoring skills to other technical team members related to data.
  • Lead technical and business discussions with internal and external business partners and management for data collection, data analysis, methodology, and documentation.
  • Engage in technical discussions with individuals or groups to accumulate information to apply critical thinking skills in order to increase system performance, mitigate risk, or perform gap analysis.
  • Independently design ETL processes and templates to support external data, ensuring seamless access for both internal and external business and technology stakeholders.
  • Perform code review, develop, or modify other supported languages, in development of custom database packages and maintain code repository in Azure DevOps.
  • Support and troubleshoot enterprise SQL Server environments (or other relational database platforms) along with their supporting Windows, UNIX, or Linux servers
  • Ensure that routine or special database software upgrades, maintenance, security audits, and patches are performed.
  • Manage database server administration including but not limited to data and database backup and recovery, system performance, system monitoring, and database security.
  • Work with the team to establish best practices to govern database server users, roles, or permissions.
  • Provide leadership in the overall database designs and setup in support of the KHS and industry standards.
  • Design, create, or modify database tables, indexes, constraints, links, stored procedures, and functions.
  • Expert level understanding of ANSI SQL (T-SQL preferred).
  • Apply Agile and Scrum methodologies, especially when collaborating within cross-functional teams to deliver incremental enhancements.
  • Basic Knowledge of Generative AI  (optional) and Experience with Data warehousing concepts           
  • Mentor and proactively support the database needs of the application development teams.
  • Provide design and structural recommendations for database application tuning and performance enhancements to development team.
  • Actively attend webinars and conferences as they pertain for database maintenance, direction, and industry standardization.

 

Employment Standards:

 

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Mathematics, or related field from an accredited school or equivalent and six (6) years progressive experience in a Database Administration or Database programming position for a medium to large size organization with a structured IT department preferably in healthcare. 

OR

Ten (10) years progressive experience in a Database Administration or Database programming position for a medium to large size organization with a structured IT department preferably in healthcare.
