Job Title: Ground Support Equipment Mechanic

 

Location: AFRC CRF Little Rock AFB

 

Task Description: Ground Support Equipment Mechanic (23380)

 

The Ground Support Equipment Mechanic diagnoses malfunctions and repairs Ground Support Equipment (GSE), advises and trains lower grade workers on diagnosis and repair of less complex repair/maintenance problems, inspects and approves completed maintenance actions, solves repair problems by studying drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics, and technical publications; uses automated maintenance data systems to monitor maintenance trends, analyze equipment requirements, maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions, and analyzes, diagnosis, and repairs GSE using conventional and digital multi-meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, frequency counters, oscilloscopes, circuit card testers, transistor testers, and hand tools. This mechanic maintains external fuel and grounding systems, performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on GSE, inspects, tests, and operates GSE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation, services equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air, diagnoses mechanical and electronic circuitry malfunctions using visual and auditory senses, test equipment, and technical publications. This work also does the following: disassembles and assembles malfunctioning GSE accessories and components, removes, disassembles repairs, cleans, treats for corrosion, assembles, and reinstalls GSE components and accessories, stencils and marks GSE in accordance with technical publications, stores, handles, labels, uses, and disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations. This mechanic prepares GSE for storage and mobility deployment; and operates, cleans, inspects, and services GSE towing vehicles. In addition to maintaining vehicle records, this mechanic maintains and updates paper and electronic equipment records, provides dispatch service for GSE, including positioning equipment to support aircraft maintenance and flying operations, practices good housekeeping, tool control, Foreign Object Damage prevention, and safety at all times.

 

 

Skills and Knowledge: The Contractor shall be proficient in diagnosing malfunctions, utilizing technical drawing and testing equipment, inspecting, repairing and proper documentation on all work performed on GSE, utilizing appropriate equipment and tools.

 

  • Must be knowledgeable of technical directives, Air Force aviation maintenance programs, and shall be knowledgeable of and understand basic supply procedures.
  • Ground Support Mechanic shall have experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy, and ensure adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Possess a high degree of expertise in the control and coordination of support equipment maintenance.
  • Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications.
  • Working understanding of the ground support equipment systems/subsystems.

 

 

Task Requirements:

  • Troubleshoot, repair, rework and maintain hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Remove, adjust, repair, replace/re-install and rebuild functional components to include mobile air conditioners.
  • Use of test equipment and benches for troubleshooting to repair, adjust and rework commercial equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, rework and maintain tooling, and facility equipment.
  • Perform close tolerance adjustment, repair and rework of equipment in and out of shop area.
  • Service, inspect and test aviation support equipment used for direct and indirect aircraft support.
  • Perform proper handling and disposal of chemicals and petroleum products required during maintenance.  
  • Requisition repair parts, materials, and consumable supplies through commercial and military supply system.
  • Read and interpret commercial manuals, technical drawings, engineering data and blueprints.
  • Determine most economical method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Troubleshoot, inspect, service, test and condition storage batteries to include lead-acid, gel and sealed type.
  • Use a wide range of battery servicing test equipment to condition, activate, store and dispose of batteries
  • Perform general housekeeping and organization of workstation(s), shop(s), maintenance facility to provide a clean, safe, and FOD free environment.
  • Perform shift work and/or overtime as required.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four or more years’ recent mechanical, electrical, hydraulic experience in Aviation Support Equipment or Equivalent.  
  • Recent experience with lift cylinders, actuators and hydraulic ram repair.
  • Recent experience with electric or hydrostatic drive system repair.
  • More than four years recent experience with battery handling and safety procedures.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be familiar with positive tool control procedures.
  • Familiarity and recent experience with mechanical, electrical and hydraulic system repair
  • Familiarity with Hazardous Material Handling and general shop procedures.
  • Familiarity and ability to use commercial and military technical manuals, drawings and schematics.
  • Must be able to work 1st or 2nd shift schedule if required.
  • Must be able work flexible work-week schedules i.e. M-F or as required.
  • Must be eligible for a Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Must be able to obtain favorable National Agency Check with Written Inquires (NACI).
  • Must be able to climb ladders, raised platforms.
  • Must be able to use hand and power tools.
  • Must have dexterity to handle small parts.

 

Compensation

$38.44/hour

 

Other Compensation

Employees receive a minimum health and welfare benefit of $7.00 per hour paid up to 40 hours per week.

Employees are offered medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are able to enroll in KAI’s 401k plan.  KAI employees at Little Rock AFB T-56 have 11 paid holidays. After completing one year of service, employees will have 88 hours of PTO.

 

Employment is contingent on (a) your ability to provide appropriate proof of your identity and eligibility to work in the United States; (b) your references and any background check being satisfactory to the Company; (c) you successfully passing a pre-employment drug test; and (d) your ability to get a required clearance by your effective start date, if needed; and (e) KAI commencing performance on this contract.
