About this role

Summary of Functions

 

Preserves, protects, and enhances Kalispel’s culture and traditions. Develops methods of teaching for preserving cultural Traditions and language for Kalispel Tribal membership. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Preserves culture and traditions of the Kalispel tribe.
  • Develops teaching methods for the Kalispel culture program
  • Gathers and disseminates relevant culture information to cultural staff and community members.
  • Conducts interviews with elders and community members to document Kalispel’s culture and history.
  • Continues to gather information on Kalispel tribes Genealogy and Family Trees
  • Gathers photo archives from various sources for use by the Culture Program.
  • Gathers all pertinent historical records from the various agencies regarding the tribe.
  • Organizes community gatherings for the Culture Program.

 

Additional Functions

 

  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

 

This position has supervisory responsibilities when contracting outside teachers to come in to teach specific subjects.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Must have some knowledge of and interest in the Kalispel culture and traditions. 
  • Must be fluent or semi-fluent in the Kalispel language.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Regulations

 

  • None required.

 

Work Environment

 

  • This position is performed primarily in an office environment.  Significant portions of the job require extended sedentary periods; constant work with computers, including extended periods of keyboarding; and repetitive motion of hands and wrists.
  • This position requires the ability to bend, stoop, lift, carry, and move items weighting up to 30 pounds.
  • This position requires occasional local travel.
  • This position requires the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • On occasion, this position requires work to be performed outside general business hours.  Evening meetings or weekend work may be required.
