We are searching for the best talent for a Principal Engineer, Metals Component DevelopmentThis role will be based in Cincinnati, OH and will work a Flex/Hybrid schedule.  Relocation assistance may be available on a case-by-case basis and if approved by the business.

Purpose: Our team of engineers, designers, and technical specialists are in the forefront of technology in the medical device industry. As a key member of our group, you will be leading efforts to develop robust metal part designs, tooling and manufacturing processes that meet or exceed all product requirements at the lowest possible manufacturing cost. This role provides an opportunity to bring exciting new products to market while also providing the opportunity for leadership and significant professional growth as you will work with leadership, NPD teams, component suppliers and manufacturing partners to make this a reality. 

You will be responsible for:

  • Cross project ownership of component design and development, working with design engineers to identify novel solutions to meet component performance requirements while leveraging existing capabilities to meet cost of goods targets.
  • Provide technical leadership of complex components and take ownership of critical technical tasks in the execution of component development projects while influencing NPD projects architecture.
  • Lead technical development of metal components with suppliers, train others in new technologies and create cross-training opportunities for NPD team.
  • Optimize product performance and refine component design to meet technical specifications and unit cost target.
  • Identify and manage technical risk across projects, in cross-functional partnerships.
  • Build and test prototypes, analyze test data and interpret to identify optimal solution(s).
  • Develop test capability to evaluate component performance and safety requirements.
  • Develop the next generation staple making head on Zahoransky with current supplier.
  • Start and lead a Cincinnati Campus wide metals community of Practice.
  • Engage other metals SMEs and bring learnings to HH Development Community.
  • Train/mentor next generation of SMEs of metal components.
    • Support/Supplement current training curriculum for metals.
    • Use prior experience to present case studies to the HH Development Community.
  • Demonstrate ability to influence through DF(x) process and project-based leadership.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or equivalent experience required; Advanced Degree strongly preferred.
  • At least 12+ years of proven experience in a dynamic R&D environment with emphasis on metals component development required.
  • Excellent technical problem solving and analytical ability including data review and statistical methods expertise.
  • Highly motivated and an enthusiastic self-starter with the ability to work under own initiative and as a team player.
  • Must have proven track record of achieving objectives in a team-based environment.
  • Excellent communication, networking, teamwork, problem solving and influencing skills. Must be proficient at breaking down complex issues to drive to succinct solutions.
  • Process Excellence Six Sigma knowledge.
  • Extensive experience in the medical device industry - particularly with metals development and technologies, metallurgy expertise, surgical devices system design and manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge in all metals processes such as machining, MIM, Stamping, and Additive Manufacturing (3DP) strongly preferred.
  • This position may require up to 25% domestic and international travel.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$117,000.00 - $201,250.00

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

Vacation –120 hours per calendar year

Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year

Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year

Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child

Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year

Caregiver Leave – 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days

Volunteer Leave – 32 hours per calendar year

Military Spouse Time-Off – 80 hours per calendar year
