Johnson Controls is seeking a hands-on Engineering Intern to join our Special Hazards Fire Suppression New Product Introduction (NPI) team at our R&D facility in Marinette, WI. This role focuses on the design, development, testing, and certification of fire protection products for our Vehicle & Restaurant Suppression portfolio. Responsibilities include development of mechanical hardware including concept generation, detailed design, prototyping, and design verification testing, regulatory approval testing, and launch support. This is an on-site position (not remote) and is not eligible for Visa sponsorship.
Work with a team of passionate engineers, program managers, product line managers and other professionals to create world class life safety products.
Analyze high level market requirements to establish design direction.
Prepare design concept diagrams, detailed drawings, and specifications.
Analyze designs for feasibility, cost optimization, vibration tolerance, mechanical stress, fluid flow, heat transfer, and other parameters.
Direct and coordinate prototype efforts.
Plan and execute test programs; analyze test data to optimize designs.
Maintain a working knowledge of manufacturing methods; design products for manufacturing efficiency.
Maintain knowledge of industry technology trends.
Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements and test standards.
Prepare and present reports and presentations.
What we look for
Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Completed sophomore year working towards a BS or completed first year of an MS degree.
Able to apply fundamental engineering theories, mathematics, mechanics, and physical science concepts to the job.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, good written and oral communications skills, flexibility and adaptability to changing situations.
Ability to write reports and convey detailed technical information.
High attention to detail and solid organizational skills.
Previous business internship/co-op experiences with strong business acumen beneficial
Demonstrated leadership experience.
HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $21-24/hour (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
