Title: Plumbing Maintenance Mechanic

Hours: 7a- 3:30 and 3p-11:30p 

Location: 1800 Orleans Street, Baltimore, MD

Pay Rate: $34-$39

 

Responsibilities

Perform maintenance, installation and repair work on piped utility systems and fixtures and on the piping and connections of equipment. This work is performed under general supervision and using the tools and techniques of plumbing technology. 

 

Working Conditions: 

  • Work in shop and mechanical area environments with exposure to dust, heat, cold, noise and fumes.
  • Work may be performed outdoors with exposure to extreme temperatures and other weather conditions.
  • Get into/work within confined spaces and in awkward positions.
  • Work at heights of up to 30 feet above surface using ladders, lifts and equipment.
  • Work requires ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Work requires ability to load/unload and transport/position tools, equipment and materials & push/pull loaded hand trucks weighing up to 75 pounds. 
  • Work with systems which involve risk of exposure to disease.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents has little likelihood of harm when established health precautions are followed.
  • Work requires the use of protective safety devices including, but not limited to, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, infection prevention apparel/apparatus, back belt.
  • Work requires attention to detail, visual acuity and manual dexterity

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of formal training in a state-approved Journey Plumber program at a vocational or technical school, college, or apprenticeship sponsor organization.
  • 5 years related work experience.
  • Knowledge of plumbing techniques, codes, procedures and materials.
  • Knowledge of safety rules, procedures and practices, including the proper use of safety equipment as defined by OSHA and industry standards.
  • Apply plumbing and safety knowledge indicated herein.
  • Safely uses tools and equipment indicated herein.
  • Ability to solve problems and manage information indicated herein.
  • Require proficient written and verbal English communication skills, at least on an high school graduate level, to interact with departmental/JHM staff.
  • Identify and avoids hazards as indicated by warning labels, signage, lights and other warning devices.
  • Perform work within reasonable lengths of time as measured against trade, industry or engineered standards.
  • Ability to use all types of tools and equipment normally used in the plumbing trade, including specialized equipment such as power augers and pipe threaders, powered bench and hand tools (such as drills, grinders, compressed air), as well as non-powered hand tools.
