Your Responsibilities

 

As a Machining Manufacturing Engineer for Drivetrain Components Manufacturing located in Waterloo, IA, you will develop and implement machining/reclaim processes for new EPDP (Enterprise Product Delivery Process) programs and existing parts including: quality planning activities, control plans / statistical process control, process monitoring, and product inspection; development of process routings; procurement of tooling ang gaging; and as needed justification and procurement of machines, tools in support of part manufacturing, Capacity increase studies. In addition, you will:

 

  • Troubleshoot and resolve production process, machine, and quality issues
  • Develop CNC machining programs, create and maintain documentation of machining processes and tooling data
  • Improve operations by conducting new tool trials and optimizing machining cycle time         
  • Recommend process flow and manufacturing cell design that support lean manufacturing through the Deere Production System
  • Establish routings, methods, layouts, tools, costs, methods documentation, quality plans and labor standards for revisions to current operations Implement cost reduction, quality, safety, and ergonomic improvement ideas           
  • Assist in team studies related to capacity, productivity, and efficiency           
  • Specify, design, and manage the procurement of cast iron manufacturing equipment, tools, and gages
  • Develop visual aids for operations

What Skills You Need

 

  • 1 or more years of experience as a manufacturing engineer in a component manufacturing environment related to the following manual processes: turning, milling, and drilling      
  • 1 or more experience with machine programming related to cast iron or steel processes      
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills to interact with all levels in the organization and supplier personnel      
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, handle and complete multiple, concurrent projects on time       
  • 1 or more years of experience applying cast iron / steel manufacturing tools and technology      
  • 1 or more years of knowledge of CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) report structure      
  • Experience with process documentation as: control plan, OMS (Operator Method Sheet), etc      
  • Experience with Machining centers, lathes and mills in the areas of cast iron or steel machining      
  • Experience in developing machining equipment, tools / perishable tooling, and fixtures   
  • Capable of reading 3D models and prints of parts 

What Makes You Stand Out

 

  • Experience in roles that required machining knowledge on cast iron of turning, milling, drilling      
  • Experience in shop floor process adjustments necessary to correct geometry and quality problems      
  • Experience with interpreting part prints and GDT (Geometric Dimensions and Tolerancing) designations      
  • Experience with the use of AutoCAD, CAM or related software      
  • Experience with leading and supporting cross functional teams for projects of moderate scope      
  • Experience with automated /robotic machining processes, welding and press processes      
  • Familiar with associated NC software (Zoller, TDM, EdgeCAM, Creo and Vericut)       
  • Implemented tool monitoring and dynamic or active controls       
  • Knowledge of Drivetrain Manufacturing and strategies
  • Knowledge of manufacturing systems, Industry 4.0 or smart manufacturing       
  • Knowledge and use of SAP business software       
  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Software 

Education

 

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or technology related field preferred, or equivalent related work experience
