Status:  Part-time, not benefit eligible 

Classification:  Part-time, non-exempt  

Hours:  M-F, 20 hours/week 

Location:  Brookside

Position Summary: 

The Staff Accountant is a proactive, detail-oriented staff member who conducts JFS’s day-to-day general accounting activities, including daily bank transaction coding, month-end closing processes and financial reporting. This position assists in developing process improvements and inquiries. 

Requirements

 Essential Duties: 

  • Record bank transactions in accounting software daily, 
  • Prepare and submit invoices to third party payers, review A/R Aging to follow up on unpaid invoices, and make recommendations to the CFO regarding non-collectible accounts, 
  • Monthly reconciliations including, but not limited to, bank reconciliations, client database to accounting software, and donor database to accounting software, 
  • Entry of biweekly payroll and 401k journal entries into accounting software, 
  • Entry of all payables into bill payment software, ensuring accurate coding and timely payments, and making sure monthly invoices have been received from all recurring vendors for monthly closing, 
  • Review and sync all credit card transactions, ensuring coding is accurate, all fields are complete, duplicate vendors are not created, appropriate documentation is attached, and all transactions have received necessary approvals, 
  • Manage Contributions Receivable and Grants Receivable schedules, 
  • Mange fixed asset schedule and monthly depreciation journal entries, 
  • Manage prepaid expense schedule and monthly recognition of expenses, 
  • Produce monthly financial statements by the 15th of each month, 
  • Support the CFO in coordinating the annual audits by preparing audit schedules and provision of requested audit evidence, 
  • Remain current on GAAP accounting, reporting and control best practices, HIPAA, and state and federal law regarding nonprofit financial operations,  
  • Support JFSKC’s implementation of its strategic plan and other duties as assigned, 
  • Maintain strict confidentiality; adhere to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations. 

Essential Education, Knowledge, and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Accounting is highly preferred: Finance or Business accepted). 
  • Three years or more or related experience in an agency/company of similar complexity. 
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting preferred. 
  • QuickBooks Online experience preferred. 
  • Tech-savvy, with aptitude for learning and implementing new technology platforms and tools. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
