Position Summary
James Irwin Charter Schools is seeking a dynamic, relationship-driven Community Engagement Liaison to serve at the network level. This role plays a vital part in strengthening relationships between James Irwin Charter Schools and the broader community by proactively engaging families, prospective families, community members, authorizers, partners, and stakeholders.
The Community Engagement Liaison represents James Irwin in the community, coordinates tours and outreach opportunities, supports marketing and communications efforts, and helps showcase the many positive stories happening across our schools. This position works closely with the Director of Advancement and network leadership to ensure consistent messaging, a strong community presence, and increased engagement in school and extracurricular events.
Key Responsibilities
Community Outreach & Engagement
Serve as a primary point of contact for community engagement efforts across the James Irwin Charter Schools network
Coordinate, schedule, and support family tours, community tours, and special campus visits
Proactively invite and engage families, prospective families, community leaders, military families, authorizers, media representatives, and other stakeholders
Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, partners, and local leaders
Events & Public Presence
Identify, seek out, and attend community events such as education fairs, charter school events, and school-related activities
Represent James Irwin Charter Schools at public events with a professional, positive, and welcoming presence
Organize and support family-focused events, including barbeques, tailgating events, athletic events, performances, and other school activities
Work to increase participation and attendance at school events such as sports, concerts, plays, and community gatherings
Marketing, Communications & Media
Collaborate with the Director of Advancement to support marketing, branding, and advertising efforts
Assist with planning and executing outreach campaigns and promotional initiatives
Help draft, organize, and coordinate press releases highlighting student success, staff achievements, programs, events, and milestones
Support storytelling efforts that showcase the mission, culture, and impact of James Irwin Charter Schools
Governance & External Relations
Occasionally attend James Irwin Charter Schools Board of Directors meetings
Attend authorizer board meetings or events as needed to support visibility, engagement, and relationship-building
Assist leadership with preparation for public presentations, community forums, and outreach meetings
Qualifications
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Comfortable representing an organization in public, professional, and community settings
Highly organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple initiatives and events
Experience in community engagement, marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field preferred
Familiarity with schools, education, or nonprofit organizations strongly preferred
Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends
Alignment with the mission, values, and culture of James Irwin Charter Schools
Additional Information
Schedule: 215 working days
Compensation: Dependent on Experience (DOE)
Location: Network-level position supporting multiple James Irwin Charter Schools campuses

James Irwin Charter Schools is a network of six charter schools in Colorado Springs, Colorado named after the late Apollo 15 Astronaut James Benson Irwin. Founded in 2000, it has four campuses and nearly 2,000 students. The mission of James Irwin Charter Schools is to help guide students in the development of their character and academic potential through academically rigorous, content-rich educational programs.
Our K-12 schools (James Irwin Charter High School, James Irwin Charter Middle School, James Irwin Elementary-Astrozon and James Irwin Elementary-Howard) have been recognized nationally, statewide and locally for academic excellence and achievement. Beginning with our academic “College Kindergarten” and culminating in our rigorous, college-preparatory high school, the schools’ mission and passion are to provide the highest quality education while developing the character of its students.
James Irwin Charter Schools opened its fifth school, Power Technical in the fall of 2016. This grades 6-14 vocational school is for students interested in construction or manufacturing. Through a partnership with Pikes Peak Community College, El Paso County School District 49, the Housing and Building Association and multiple manufacturers, Power Technical will pay for its students to earn an Associate’s Degree in a skilled trade.
