Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital (JBHH) is a three-story, 180,000-square-foot facility committed to the highest quality, treatment, and service. Opened in 1999, JBHH consolidates evaluation, clinical treatment, teaching and research, to offer a full continuum of care for children, adolescents, adults and elderly, including crisis stabilization, inpatient hospitalization, and outpatient programs. In association with the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry, JBHH offers specialized treatment for numerous conditions including depression and mood disorders, schizophrenia, suicidal ideation or behavior, anxiety and panic disorders, drug and alcohol abuse and Alzheimer's disease. JBHH also specializes in criminal justice mental health services.

Summary

The Mental Health Intake Specialist performs clinical tasks as well as provides clerical support to the inpatient Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU). Incumbents interview patients for all pertinent account information, verifies insurance coverage and obtains all related consents for treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical and social assessment of patients and their emotional status. 
  • Compiles background information needed to have a comprehensive evaluation of the patient's emotional situation, social needs, family history, academic background, previous psychological and psychiatric evaluations, and/or treatment. Assesses family involvement and identifies significant others. Verifies payor source. 
  • Complete emergency service documentation and billing. 
  • Explains program guidelines, patient's rights and responsibilities, confidentiality, and rationale for different treatment modalities based on patient's developmental level or age, functional status and cultural/spiritual/religious affiliations. 
  • Has a working knowledge and understanding of the influence and maladaptive patterns of substance abuse, and has the skills to identify them. 
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the contributing factors in the progression of the disease of chemical dependency. 
  • Completes all assessment forms for residential detox patients according to the 65D 30 guidelines (ASAM, ASI). 
  • Prepares and maintains complete and accurate patient information including, admission package and all subsequent documentation, certifications, reports, narratives, and outcome measures, as specified by governing regulations. 
  • Continually evaluates, assesses and reassesses the patient's need for services and the quality of services provided. 
  • Completes all necessary State Outcome Measures for Behavioral Health Services Documentation of State Outcome Measures in appropriate system in a timely manner. 
  • Follows the Baker Act and Marchman Act legal requirements. 
  • Implement goals of a Recovery-Oriented System of Care (ROSC) model by promoting good quality of life, community health and wellness for all; Prevent the development of behavioral health conditions; Intervene earlier in the progression of illnesses; Reduce the harm caused by substance use disorders and mental health conditions on individuals, families, and communities; Provide the resources to assist people with behavioral health conditions to achieve and sustain their wellness and build meaningful lives for themselves in their communities. Responds to Emergency Codes. 
  • Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). 
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.


Experience

  • Generally requires 1 to 3 years of related experience.


Education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field is required.


Credentials

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
