
Miami, FL On Call/Pool Security
Summary
This is a Per-diem position. Nights and Weekends shifts only. Hospital Security Specialist is responsible for completing all security assignments and tasks with minimal direction from the Shift Supervisor. Is thoroughly knowledgeable of the PHT Hospital Security philosophy, policies and procedures as well as the scope of departmental services.
Responsibilities
Maintains the proficiency and knowledge of JHS hospital and departmental policies and procedures as they pertain to the assignments, zones, posts, patrols and property providing a multitude of protection duties with maximum visibility. Performs security and enforcement functions pertaining to hospital regulations, policies and procedures with firmness and tact. Security specialists are required to report all activities and incidents pertaining to their respective assignments. Responds to all requests for assistance or service courteously and provides an appropriate resolution . Demonstrates an awareness, understanding and empathy toward problems related to patients, visitors and staff. Relates and interacts well with others and maintains a professional and courteous attitude at all times. Responds to all security and safety emergencies. Calmly and quickly assesses the situations and effects the appropriate action in accordance with applicable procedures. Demonstrates the ability to use humane techniques in controlling disturbed persons within the scope of duty. Identifies and challenges any unauthorized persons on the grounds, keeping a professional attitude at all times. Assists law enforcement officers within the guidelines of JHS hospital and department policies. Identifies and promptly reports all safety hazards to appropriate departments and verifies corrective action has been taken. Demonstrates a reasonable knowledge of investigative techniques and legal requirements for a successful resolution. Thoroughly investigates all unusual or suspicious activities, interviews all available witnesses and obtains written statements whenever necessary. Refers to JHS Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures for guidance in the decision making process in all enforcement and personnel actions. Accepts and is responsible for the condition of all PHT hospital and departmental equipment and promptly reports all damages and/or outages. Supports in action and words the approved policies and procedures of the JHS Hospital and Security Services Department. Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervisors and/or the Director of Public Safety. When required, operates motor vehicle in a safe and professional manner in accordance with Miami-Dade County codes and regulations. Demonstrates flexibility in performing assignments at anytime and at any JHS location. Composes and completes accurate reports using MS Word or equivalent software. Communicates effectively and concisely in written and spoken English. Functions effectively in a multi-cultural environment. May be responsible for transporting sensitive medical supplies, equipment, or medications, requiring careful handling, timely delivery, and adherence to specific risk protocols. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience
Generally requires 1-3 years of related experience. At least one year of security experience, plus healthcare service or customer service experience with high degree of interaction with general public. One year of full-time/active military, fire/rescue, police or other law enforcement can be substituted for security experience. College level criminal justice credits and/or security experience in a hospital environment is a plus.
Education
High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in English in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications. Able to work any shift, any days, including weekends and holidays at any JHS facility. Diversity awareness, understanding and respect for cultural differences.
Credentials
Valid Florida Driver's License. Must have a clean driving record, free from major traffic offenses such as accidents, DUIs, and traffic violations. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.

Working Conditions
Physical Requirements - Physically fit and able to pass fitness exam. Position may require periods of intense physical activity in extreme conditions. Certain jobs in this group may also be required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as use of computers and other components of a typical office environment. Environmental Conditions - Jobs in this group are required to function in a fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent and stressful situations. Function is subject to inside environmental conditions, with occasional outdoor exposures. Possible exposure to various environments such as: communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a hospital and medical office environment. May wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves or a mask when exposed to hospital environment.
