JOB SUMMARY

Jabil is seeking a Lead Photonics System Engineer focused on enabling design and manufacturing services for cutting edge co-packaged-optics systems, which present new challenges with the integration density of photonic elements at the box and rack level at the EMS environment. This position will engage with leading edge technology companies, transforming photonics as an industry, while contributing to the rapid transformative growth within the Intelligent Infrastructure business unit.

Lead process engineers in this team have responsibility for developing packaging and manufacturing processes and associated tooling and process control mechanisms to enable high yield manufacturing of complex densely packed photonic systems. To achieve this, the process engineer within this role will have to bridge several disciplines including micro-electronic and micro-optics packaging along with wireline system manufacturing to develop a new type of hybrid manufacturing environment for co-packaged optics at the EMS level. The process engineer would need to leverage his/her expertise in process development to engage with clients ushering new system technologies and designs at a rapid pace, enable Jabil’s manufacturing sites to adapt to new types of tooling and requirements, and establish manufacturing processes for a new class of co-packaged-optics products.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate client early engagement to funnel in specs, requirements required for a process design.
  • Support product design phase with DFM and FMEA guidance.
  • Devise detailed manufacturing processes including generating interim-step manufacturing specs based on deep understanding of product specs and packaging/assembly requirements.
  • Devise process development plans ranging from initial first articles to NPI ramp, and through to HVM. Including identifying yield risks and setting up control gates to address within the line.
  • Generate clear documentation of process steps, requirements, specs. Assist factory in translating these into work instructions and visual aids and verify these reflect correctly the requirements.
  • Collaborate with test, reliability, quality engineering teams to enable successful product manufacturing.
  • Mentore fellow process engineers at the manufacturing sites.
  • Maintain an ongoing engagement with the factory operations and engineering teams to continuously drive process and yield improvements.
  • Keep abreast of new technologies pertaining to the manufacturing of co-packaged-optics systems with a focus on photonics packaging, fiber-optic connectivity, and cutting edge SMT tooling and processes.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Experienced in photonic packaging or system build methods and processes including process controls.
  • Familiar with optic and photonic package design and related systems and sub-systems.
  • Knowledgeable of test for packaged ASICs, photonics, and systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly detail oriented, highly organized & methodical thinker.
  • Able to tackle engineering challenges and devise structured R&D programs for process development.
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, and with high sense of product ownership.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant undergraduate degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, material eng. or the like. Advantage to advanced degrees in relevant STEM disciplines.
  • 8+ years of optics / photonics advanced packaging design and process development experience

The pay range for this role is $100,100 - $180,200. Job-related, non-discriminatory factors used to determine the actual offered rate include qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and consideration of internal equity. The anticipated close date of this job requisition is: January 31, 2026.

As part of the total rewards package, this position is eligible for a short-term incentive based on performance. In addition, Jabil offers benefits to enhance your health, wealth, and resilient self.
