
Border Livestock Services are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Farm Veterinary Care Assistant to join our expanding farm animal veterinary team, based at our Longtown practice!
This is a varied role, supporting our vets and farm clients in the delivery of high-quality farm animal veterinary care. The successful candidate will play an important role in the day-to-day running of the service, assisting with both on-farm and practice-based activities while contributing to the continued development of our farm services.
Our practice is ideally situated on the outskirts of the stunning Lake District, just 30 minutes from the fells, lakes, Hadrian’s Wall, and the scenic borderlands. It’s a fantastic location for anyone who enjoys the great outdoors and wants to make the most of their time outside of work.
About the role
Reception & Practice Support including:
Diary management
Call handling, allocation & triage
Supporting vets in attending farm calls efficiently
Assisting with coordination of emergency calls
Stock ordering, rotation, and inventory support
Farm & Veterinary Support Duties (with training provided where required):
Client coordination- for example organising TB tests, vaccination reminders, herd health plan reminders.
Assisting with growth rate tracking and data collection
Cleaning of equipment
Organising farm kits
Supporting Failure of Passive Transfer (FPT) monitoring
Assisting with disbudding procedures
Providing support during surgical procedures
Assisting with TB testing
Laboratory assistance and sample handling
Data entry and administration, including vaccination records and herd health plan communications
Locomotion scoring support
Teat scoring support
Collecting data for dynamic parlour testing
Faecal sampling and preparation for parasitology
Our ideal candidate
We are looking for someone who is a confident and professional communicator with both clients and colleagues. We want someone who is adaptable proactive and comfortable in a fast-paced and changing environment. You must also be supportive and a strong team player.
Our ideal candidate will also have farming knowledge or come from a farming background. An SQP qualification would be beneficial but is not essential, with the option to study towards this qualification.
About the rota
This is a part-time permanent role working 25 hours per week. The shifts would include:
Monday- 9:00am-6:00pm
Tuesday- 9:00am-6:00pm
Wednesday- 9:00am-2:00pm
Thursday- 9:00am-2:00pm
There will also be some weekend reception work on a rota basis.
