Sr. Data Science Analyst

We are seeking a highly skilled, technically advanced data professional who can serve as a subject matter expert and trusted partner to leaders across the system. In this role, you will lead complex data projects, mentor junior analysts, and transform raw, disparate data into meaningful insights and visualizations that drive strategic and operational decision‑making. This position requires deep expertise in SQL, advanced analytics, and business intelligence tools, with the ability to collaborate closely with leaders to understand their data needs and deliver accurate, clear, and actionable outputs.

Shift: Full-time, Monday-Friday, hybrid schedule, onsite as needed
Location: North Indianapolis (Fishers, Avon, Carmel, Downtown)
The Scope: Transforming Raw Data Into Actionable Insight
The Sr. Data Science Analyst plays a pivotal role in enabling IU Health to make data‑driven decisions across the enterprise. This position serves as the highest‑level technical resource for the analyst team, providing expertise in data extraction, cleansing, modeling, and visualization. You will work directly with operational and clinical leaders to clarify data needs, build meaningful dashboards, and ensure accurate interpretation of financial, operational, and clinical data.
Candidate Qualifications
Candidates for this position will be evaluated according to the following criteria and competencies.
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
7–10 years of relevant data science, analytics, or advanced reporting experience
Expert‑level proficiency in:
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft SQL Server
SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services)
Demonstrated experience in the healthcare industry
Significant experience using business intelligence tools such as Tableau, QlikView, Business Objects, or Power BI (strongly preferred)
Proven ability to lead teams or workstreams through complex, technical projects
Ability to identify, cleanse, and integrate disparate data sources
Demonstrated ability to communicate analytical findings clearly to stakeholders at all levels
Preferred
Lean Six Sigma experience
Experience supporting data needs in a multi‑system healthcare environment
Experience mentoring junior or intermediate analysts
Key Responsibilities: Operational & Service‑Driven Excellence
Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the highest‑level technical resource for data queries, SQL work, modeling, and advanced analytics for leaders and analyst teams.
Consultative Engagement: Work closely with operational and clinical leaders to understand their data needs, interpret requirements, and translate them into clear analytical outputs.
Raw Data Analysis & Modeling: Extract, cleanse, blend, and analyze large, raw datasets from multiple IU Health systems to generate insightful and reliable models.
Data Visualization: Design and develop high‑quality dashboards and visualizations (Power BI is the primary tool), turning complex data into easily digestible insights.
Business Process Understanding: Develop an in‑depth understanding of business processes to ensure data models appropriately reflect operational reality.
Project Leadership: Lead complex, multi‑phase analytical projects and provide direction to junior and intermediate analysts.
Quality & Data Integrity: Ensure effective use of financial and operational data that may be relied upon by the organization for major decisions.
Data Trend Identification: Identify trends, anomalies, and data quality issues across multiple systems; propose solutions and process improvements.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner with leaders across finance, operations, IT, and clinical teams to ensure alignment and accurate data interpretation.
Team Mentorship: Support skill development of intermediate and junior analysts through coaching, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance.
