The Laboratory manager is responsible for planning and directing the professional and nonprofessional activities of the Clinical Laboratory. Ensures that the Laboratory provides adequate services for the patients, Administration and the Medical Staff. Oversee efficient and economical operation of laboratory and ensures that the laboratory operates in accordance with state, federal and applicable accrediting body regulations. The role of a hospital lab manager is multifaceted, requiring a combination of technical expertise, management skills, and leadership abilities. By effectively overseeing laboratory operations, the lab manager plays a vital role in ensuring high-quality patient care and efficient laboratory services.

Duties /Responsibilities:
Operational Oversight: The lab manager is responsible for the overall management of laboratory operations, ensuring that all procedures are executed efficiently and effectively. This includes monitoring workflows, equipment maintenance, and resource allocation.
Staff Management: This role involves supervising laboratory personnel, including hiring, training, and evaluating staff performance. The lab manager ensures that all team members are adequately trained in laboratory procedures and safety protocols.
Quality Control and Assurance: The lab manager implements and oversees quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results. This includes conducting regular audits, reviewing quality control reports, and addressing any discrepancies.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations is a critical duty. The lab manager must stay updated on relevant laws and guidelines, such as CLIA and CAP standards, and ensure that the laboratory meets accreditation requirements.
Budgeting and Resource Management: The lab manager is responsible for managing the laboratory budget, including monitoring expenses, approving purchases, and optimizing resource use to maintain cost-effectiveness.
Policy Development: Developing and updating laboratory policies and procedures is essential to maintain operational efficiency and safety. The lab manager collaborates with medical directors and other stakeholders to implement new tests and technologies.
Data Management: Overseeing data integrity and management processes is crucial for maintaining accurate records and ensuring patient confidentiality. The lab manager ensures that all data is securely stored and accessible only to authorized personnel.
Problem Resolution: The lab manager addresses any issues related to laboratory operations, including troubleshooting equipment problems, resolving staff conflicts, and ensuring timely reporting of test results.
QualificationsQualifications/Education and Experience:
Education: Bachelor’s degree with a major in Medical Technology, chemical, or biological science
Certification: possess a valid ASCP or equivalent certification
Experience: Must qualify as a Technical and General Supervisor according to CLIA guidelines
Skills: Desirable characteristics include proficiency in verbal and written communications and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public
Additional requirements: Current BLS certification or obtain within 6 months of hire.
