Position Description

Title:                                Plant Engineer        

Department:                   Maintenance and Engineering

Immediate Supervisor: Engineering Manager

Status:                            Exempt Salaried                    

     Position Purpose:         The Plant Engineer executes the mechanical, electrical and process related solutions that improve, correct manufacturing issues.  This role leads engineering projects that improve safety, quality and site processes.  The Plant Engineer will lead technical and operational projects that involve a broad range of equipment, materials and processes.

 

Principle Accountabilities

  • Manage the capital projects from conceptualization to completion.
  • Provide technical guidance and support for the Maintenance Department.
  • Direct and participate in process improvement and process analysis activities.
  • Initiate and manage plant-level projects relating to mechanical installations, removals and upgrades.
  • Technical assistance in the areas of troubleshooting, PLC programming, operator interfaces, drive systems and general process control.
  • Serves as the “go-to” person for expert advice for maintenance technicians and department mechanics.
  • Implement new project deployments from conception to completion.
  • Responsible for Safety and 5S deployments and machine modifications.
  • Identify machinery malfunctions and reliability concerns.  Lead and/or coordinate projects to address.
  • OEE improvement of machinery through machine design.
  • Related tasks as requested by supervisor

 

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering field – Prefer Electro-Mechanical.
  • 4-7 years in a related industry field such as plastic or converting environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Knowledge of machine design capability.
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Building Codes and OSHA standards.
  • Design experience associated with the following:  process piping, pumps, hydraulic systems, pneumatics, natural gas, air conveyance systems, silos, tanks, extruders, winders, rollers, conveyors.
  • Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Must be organized and able to handle multiple projects, and possess an understanding of the responsibilities of an in-house marketing department and how multiple business units work together to present a single, unified look and message 
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be detail oriented, results driven and conscientious
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work with cross-functional teams
