Position Purpose:       The Applications Manager will supporting customers through leading the development and implementation of custom solutions within the building envelope markets. This position will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, promote innovation and focus on end-to-end solutions for current and new customers.

Principle Accountabilities:

  1. Business Development:
  • Lead/Support the identification of new sales opportunities for various B&C products.
  • Responsible for new product development in collaboration with customer needs. This includes product recommendations, customized products applications, new product demonstrations and troubleshooting for customers on their building envelope challenges.
  • Conduct road shows or technical visits as needed for product demos, understanding needs, meetings, audits, troubleshooting, etc. across all customer segments. Develop sales aids to help sales teams showcase product advantages vs. competition.
  • Provide product samples as needed and leverage customer feedback from product samples for product development. Keep customer informed on trial rolls and product samples. Work with internal manufacturing locations to provide on time customer sample.
  • Document Customer visits and discussions and share with sales, R&D and product development teams.
  • Support development of the 4Ps for target products- Product, Promotion, Price, Place

2. Product Development:

  • Development of a multi-generational product plan for identified B&C products. Ensure product portfolio has the required number of products to support identified top line growth.
  • Be the liaison and integration force between customer and internal teams. Collaborate closely with R&D, product management and plant teams to translate technical requirements into commercially successful products.
  • Develop adhesive formulations as needed based on customer feedback and provide recommendations for either branded or private label product strategy.  
  • Adhere/Adapt to all IPG product development guidelines and templates during product development process to ensure a repeatable product development process.
  • Work with external testing agencies to obtain appropriate product certifications and ensure product meets required customer standards
  • Keep abreast of competitive offerings and new launches. Adapt product portfolio as needed.

3. Technical/Production Consultation:

  • Be the one stop shop for all product related questions. Serve as a subject matter expert to customers and the internal organization, helping to specify and qualify solutions that meet market demands and regulatory requirements.
  • Be the internal consultant to production plants. Work with plants to identify equipment upgrades needed to produce identified products. Suggest and support execution of any line changes, asset modifications, adhesive changes, process improvements etc. to ensure a low-cost product at scale.
  • Support plant quality in developing test plans and help troubleshoot any field quality issues. Be the liaison for laboratory work results from plant and report technical results to customers. Report quality issues / customers' claims to relevant parts of the organization and identify pathways to improve.
  • Responsible for product application / technical training and coaching of field sales force and customers.
  • Support development and improvement of bill of materials within the production plants.

4. Supplier Development:

  • Work with plants to identify multiple supplier partners for identified raw materials and services.
  • Provide specifications to suppliers for all sample adhesives, substrates, backings, trial rolls etc. Ensure availability of trial products on short notice as needed.
  • Maintain supplier relations and help in price negotiations to ensure bottom line cost improvements.
  • Identify alternate material and supplier as appropriate to improve product costing.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, science, marketing, manufacturing or a related field. Related equivalent experience will also be considered in lieu of bachelor’s degree.
  • 4-7 years of related experience
  • Proven experience in job site troubleshooting, manufacturing, business development, product development of Building and Construction products.
  • Strong network working with OEMS and with suppliers in the B&C industry.
  • Experience in manufacturing of tapes, adhesives, and films.
  • Passion for sustainability
  • Excellent strategic thinking, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with technical and commercial teams.
  • Ability to travel extensively as needed and on short notice as needed to support customer job site installations or demonstrations.
