Job Description

Position Pending Award

The Paramedic provides specialized medical care that addresses the physical, emotional, and social needs of this vulnerable population. This role emphasizes the importance of building trusting relationships, delivering culturally competent care, and supporting the health and well-being of immigrant children and their families through education and advocacy.

  • Conduct thorough assessments and triage of immigrants presenting with various medical conditions.
  • Provide immediate and appropriate care while ensuring a culturally sensitive approach to treatment.
  • Administer emergency medications and treatments as indicated.
  • Transport patients to and from alternate facilities.
  • Educate patients and their families about health conditions, and treatments in an understandable manner.
  • Document all patient care activities accurately and promptly in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Organize and participate in emergency response efforts, ensuring a safe environment for children and their families.
  • Advocate for the needs and rights of immigrant children within the healthcare system.
  • Assist medical providers with medical procedures and treatments as allowed within licensed scope of work.
  • Assessment and documentation of the patient’s vital signs, chief complaint, medical history, and prescribed medications.
  • Maintains supply inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies.
  • Restocking clinical and provider areas once supplies are received.
  • Is accountable for maintaining and improving own physician knowledge and skill competence.
  • Provides patient care that promotes the safety and well-being of all patients. 
  • Supports the International Health and Medical Services philosophy, objectives and goals and Organization mission and vision.
  • Respects and supports patient rights.
  • Fosters constructive relationships as a team member within assigned department and with the members of other departments.
  • Maintains professional conduct.
  • Supports and enforces infection control policies and procedures.
  • Completes required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the past three years.
  • Experience working with US military healthcare regulations and standards of care preferred.  
  • Experience working in austere environments preferred.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.

 

Experience Preferred:

  • Experience working on ORR programs preferred.

 

Education Required:

  • Must have and maintain an unrestricted and current license as a Paramedic issued by the state licensing authority in the state where services are performed.  
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.
  • Experience in Pediatrics, Medical Pediatrics, Family Medicine, or Pediatric Emergency Room settings is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish is preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Required to walk unaided at a normal pace for up to 5 minutes and maintain balance.
  • Required to jog/fast walk up to ¼ mile.
  • Requires physical exertion such as lifting objects greater than 30 pounds.
  • Required to perform CPR/emergency care standing or kneeling.
  • Must have the ability to assist sick, injured, or aging patients or staff exiting the building (may require lifting, dragging, wheeling, or carrying someone who weighs significantly more than self).
  • Must be able to see, hear and smell with aids if necessary.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or carry 30 pounds.
  • Must perform the duties of my job in a stressful and often austere environment without physical limitations.
  • Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Average manual dexterity for computer operation.
  • Phone or computer use for extended periods of time.

 

Other Special Qualifications:

  • Must maintain current/physical residency in the continental U.S.
  • Pass a medical examination conducted by a licensed physician within 30 days prior to initial assignment.
  • U.S. citizen and have resided in the U.S. for the last five years (unless abroad on official U.S. government duty).
  • Successfully engage in and complete a thorough Background Investigation.
  • Poses or have ability to obtain required security clearances.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.

Additional Information

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
