Job Description:

The Radiation Therapist is responsible for administration of ionizing radiation for therapeutic purposes in accordance with the prescription of the Radiation Oncologist and is accountable for the simulation of patients in preparation of radiation therapy, basic patient care and education..

Shift Details: Full-time (36 Hours), rotating days. Nine 8-hour days per pay period, Monday - Friday. Variable shift start times: 7am, 7:30am, or 8am.

As a Radiation Therapist at Intermountain Health, you will play a vital role in supporting our clinical team, ensuring our patients receive the best care by:

  • Interprets and implements prescription and treatment plan. Delivers and charts all simulation and treatment summaries.
  • Performs simulation procedures, prepare immobilization devices. Obtains accurate measurements, contours, and other information as needed for dosimetry purposes.
  • Assess treatment machines and perform daily equipment warm-up and quality assurance procedures.
  • Assists in clinical training and evaluation of student therapists if applicable.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Responsible for basic patient care during treatment delivery, assists with patient education, observes and monitors day-to-day clinical progress of patients for signs of treatment symptoms.
  • Provides accurate daily billing information for all treatment related procedures.
  • Responsible for scheduling and treating patients in a timely and professional manner.

Required Qualifications

  • Radiology Tech License in the state of practice, if applicable.

  • Certification in Radiation Therapy from the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Radiation Therapy. Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$46.91 - $72.39
