About this role

Certified Medication Aide


The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) is responsible for safely and accurately administering medications to residents in a nursing home setting under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. This role is vital to ensuring that residents receive the proper medications in a timely manner while maintaining high standards of care and compliance with regulatory guidelines.

Essential Functions:

Medication Administration:

  • Assist in the administration of prescribed medications to residents as ordered by physicians and according to facility protocols.
  • Verify resident identities and medication orders prior to administration.
  • Monitor residents for any adverse reactions or side effects and promptly report any concerns to nursing staff.

Documentation & Record Keeping:

  • Accurately document medication administration, including dosage, time, and any resident responses or incidents.
  • Maintain medication logs and assist in the management of medication inventories, ensuring timely restocking and proper storage.

Resident Care:

  • Provide compassionate care by engaging with residents, understanding their needs, and assisting with personal care when necessary.
  • Collaborate closely with the nursing team to support overall resident wellness and comfort.

Compliance & Safety:

  • Adhere to all state and federal regulations as well as facility policies regarding medication administration.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment and properly handle hazardous materials.
  • Participate in ongoing training and quality assurance initiatives to keep current with best practices.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and
  • Certification of Medication Aide program
  • Additional state specific requirements as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Able to effectively communicate with clinical and non-clinical staff and individuals.
  • Able to provide proof of valid driver’s license, if applicable.
  • Able to provide proof of valid auto liability insurance in assignment(s) include driving own vehicle.
  • Meets applicable health requirements to provide patient care as appropriate
