The Information Services Division is currently looking for Data Quality Analyst - Intermediate to join our Information Management - Claims team. In this role, you will be responsible for performing data quality tests on developed data pipelines, along with maintaining and enhancing automated testing solutions using a mix of testing approaches and technologies to ensure the quality of ICBC’s various data products.


We use Apache Spark, Scala and SQL to perform “Data Preparation & transformation” and Tableau to create self-service reports & data visualizations. The team is using the latest in Big Data technologies such as MAPR Hadoop, Scala, Apache Spark, Streamsets, Jenkins, Tableau and AWS big data technologies (Glue, S3, Lambda, Step Functions, Data Zone).


Specifically, you will:

· Create manual & automated test plans, schedules and strategies; developing test scripts and test data requirements; use modern test tools to execute validation techniques such as integration, performance and regression test cases.

· Document test results, objectives, data sets and status reports.

· Provide technical guidance and assistance to team members.

· Clearly communicate business requirements and defects to stakeholders.

· Conduct walkthrough of test results to data engineers and business stakeholders.

· Create and execute automated acceptance tests leveraging appropriate tools.


Position Requirements:

This position will require someone who has 3-5 years of relevant hands-on experience in the domain of software testing, Data Engineering, Data Analytics, or a combination of relevant post-secondary education and related business experience.


The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

· Strong Database & SQL skills preferably in Big Data and AWS

· Understanding of object oriented programming such as Python, Scala, or Java.

· Working experience in building complex SQL queries.

· Familiarity with Tableau or similar data visualization tools.

· Understanding of Agile methodologies.

· Ability to design and create test cases that can be used for automation utilizing Big Data technologies.

· Demonstrated experience of creating and executing manual test cases as well as exploratory functional testing.

· Experience testing functional/non-functional requirements.

· Experience performing production support including incident, problem and change management.

· Effective written and oral communication skills.

· Ability to work without supervision and in a cross-functional team environment.

· Good communication, interpersonal, time management and collaboration skills.

· Ability to plan, prioritize and complete multiple concurrent tasks in an environment of changing deadlines, priorities and requirements.

· Demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving and learning agility.

· Understanding of and prior work experience in Insurance Claims is an asset.

Work arrangements defined: 

  • Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
