About this role

Director, Product Architecture

(Senior Individual Contributor role – no direct people management)

The Director of Product Architecture is a senior-level individual contributor who defines and leads end-to-end (E2E) product architecture for connected medical devices, digital health platforms, data services, and AI-driven features. This role focuses on making product architecture a key advantage by ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and clinically effective—supporting patient and prescriber workflows in both monitoring and therapy applications.

Operating at the intersection of engineering, product, clinical, operations, and commercial strategy, this role is highly hands-on and influential. The individual serves as a working architect and technical evangelist, shaping internal execution and external communication during an active R&D transformation. Strong collaboration with cross-functional partners is essential to ensure architecture decisions translate into manufacturable, market-ready, and clinically credible products.

The role places strong emphasis on third-party collaboration as a driver of both organic innovation and inorganic growth. Success requires a startup-mindset agility—bias for action, rapid learning, and pragmatic tradeoff decisions—while maintaining the rigor expected of regulated medical device environments.

Job Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve system-level product architectures spanning hardware, firmware, software, connectivity, cloud, and digital applications to ensure scalability, security, and clinical effectiveness.
  • Architect platforms and products that accelerate clinical application adoption across the portfolio, supporting therapy engagement, adherence, outcomes measurement, and clinician workflows.
  • Drive architectural decisions that create clear and durable product differentiation in performance, usability, scalability, and clinical value, embedding support for defensible billing, compliance, and auditability.
  • Establish modular, reusable architecture patterns that support multi-generation product roadmaps, balancing innovation with manufacturability, reliability, cost, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Define secure, scalable data pipelines for analytics, predictive insights, and future AI/ML capabilities, ensuring responsible use of behavioral, device, and clinical data in alignment with regulatory, ethical, and privacy standards.
  • Partner with Product Management and Clinical teams to translate care delivery workflows into architectural requirements, driving AI- and data-first considerations at the architecture level to future-proof designs.
  • Promote a startup-oriented mindset that values speed, experimentation, and learning while upholding the rigor expected in medical-grade environments.
  • Act as a credible technical voice for product and platform direction, evangelizing architectural vision across R&D, Operations, Product, and Commercial teams, and supporting Marketing and Commercial functions by translating architecture into clear differentiation narratives.
  • Serve as an escalation point for architecture-level challenges, reducing technical ambiguity and rework through early architectural clarity.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in medical device, digital health, or connected product architecture
  • Proven success as a senior individual contributor influencing system-level decisions
  • Deep understanding of regulated product development environments
  • Strong experience integrating devices, software, connectivity, data, and platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, evangelize, and align across functions
  • Direct experience with patient- and prescriber-facing clinical SaMD applications
  • Exposure to AI/ML, analytics, or healthcare data platforms
  • Experience collaborating with startups, vendors, and external development partners
  • Background supporting R&D transformation initiatives
