About this role

As Risk, Remediation and Controls Manager, Safe Business – Retail Banking, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring the business operates safely while continuing to innovate and deliver exceptional customer outcomes. You’ll be a key member of ING’s Safe Business (1st line risk) community, supporting product and digital squads to make sound risk decisions, managing issues and incidents, and leading remediation that is timely, proportionate, and customer‑centric.

As part of the Safe Business / Issue Resolution capability, you’ll be responsible for identifying, assessing and managing risk issues and events, supporting large‑scale remediation; providing practical risk advice to the business. Operating close to digital delivery and customer insights teams, you’ll act as a trusted advisor when matters arise, helping teams navigate the right path forward while maintaining delivery momentum.

A core aspect of the role is triage and judgement. The wider business will bring forward potential issues seeking an objective view on whether a matter constitutes a risk event, how it should be managed, and where accountability sits. You’ll apply policy, frameworks and strong commercial judgement to guide next steps, while partnering closely with Risk, Compliance and Legal to balance customer, regulatory and commercial outcomes in fast‑moving, technology‑enabled environments.

What you’ll do

  • Own and manage 1st Line risk issues and events, from identification and triage through to closure, ensuring clear ownership, documentation and evidence throughout the lifecycle.
  • Deliver and coordinate large‑scale retail remediation, aligning to regulatory obligations and ING’s Customer Remediation Standard to achieve fair customer outcomes and sustainable control uplift.
  • Operate a central advisory and triage function, objectively assessing matters raised by the business to determine classification (risk event vs BAU), materiality, and required next steps.
  • Provide clear guidance on remediation pathways, directing teams to the appropriate policy owners, specialists or 2nd Line partners to progress matters efficiently.
  • Feed accurate insights into enterprise and divisional risk reporting, identifying trends and systemic themes to support proactive risk management.
  • Act as the interface between the business and 2nd Line Risk, Compliance and Legal, translating regulatory expectations into practical, actionable guidance while providing constructive challenge.

What we’re looking for

  • Exceptional judgement and confidence making decisions, with the ability to assess, triage and manage risk issues through to resolution.
  • Experience coordinating remediation activity, with an understanding of regulatory expectations and delivering fair customer outcomes.
  • Comfortable operating as an advisory point for the business, providing clear guidance on issue classification, prioritisation and next steps.
  • Confident communicator who can influence, challenge and collaborate across delivery teams and 2nd Line Risk, Compliance and Legal.
  • Comfortable working in digital environments and systems, with excellent documentation and evidence management discipline.
  • Background in financial services within a regulated environment; exposure to risk, issues/events or remediation is highly advantageous.

What’s in it for you?

  • Discounted ING Health Insurance
  • An additional Rest Day to support your wellbeing
  • An IMPACT day to volunteer on approved sustainability activity
