Position Summary


The Sr R&D Electrical Engineer is responsible for collaborating or leading the electrical design, testing and certification of innovative electrical power products. This role collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to ensure product safety, reliability, manufacturability, and compliance with relevant industry standards. The ideal candidate brings strong engineering fundamentals, technical leadership, and the ability to support complex projects from concept through production.


 


Key Responsibilities



  • Support electrical design for power and control for Low Voltage New Product Development Projects from project initiation through production implementation.

  • Ensure the execution and implementation of New Product Introduction (NPI) Electrical engineering work for assigned projects.

  • Collaborate with Senior and Lead Engineers in writing detailed electrical engineering specifications and developing electrical schematics in collaboration with Sales and other stakeholders.

  • Support testing with Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs) to define product evaluation and certification scope.

  • Lead the creation of detailed electrical schematics and wiring drawings.

  • Support development and documentation of test plans according to the relevant standards for testing requiring power, control & communication devices in the equipment. Common tests include full-load temperature rise, dielectric and BIL, short-circuit and withstand current tests.

  • Support the testing process at in-house and third-party laboratories. Travel up to 20% to support testing and other product development tasks in-person. Evaluate test results and revise designs based on empirical data and established engineering concepts.

  • Characterize the electrical performance of common design elements through testing, simulation and/or analytical methods. Develop standard design criteria and models.

  • Work closely with manufacturing engineering to implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) concepts throughout the new product development process.

  • Working with Mechanical and Electrical Designers.

  • Conduct failure analysis of existing products and identify opportunities for continuous improvement


Qualifications



  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical designing of low and/or medium voltage power distribution equipment or related products.

  • BSEE or equivalent in experience. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Experience with NRTL (UL, CSA, etc.) evaluation, testing and certification processes.

  • Experience with common standards for electrical equipment, UL 891, 1558, 508A; IEEE/ANSI C37.20.2, C37.04, C37.06, C37.09; CSA C22.2 No. 31-M89; EEMAC G8-3.2 design guidelines and NFPA70E are desirable

  • Design Experience using AutoCAD or similar to produce electrical diagrams and schematics is highly preferred.

  • Strong Technical Capability

  • Solid grasp of three-phase electric power concepts, power distribution systems, power control and protection schemes is preferred.

  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.

  • Must be a team player with strong verbal/written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills with precise attention to detail.
