PURPOSE OF POSITION:


The Mechanical Engineer – Maintenance of Line (MOL) supports and sustains the accuracy, manufacturability, and production readiness of IEM’s active medium voltage power distribution product designs across all facilities.


This role supports ongoing health of active designs, resolves complex mechanical issues, maintains engineering standards, and drives continuous improvement across all manufacturing facilities. The MOL Engineer works cross‑functionally with production, quality, electrical engineering, and manufacturing engineering to ensure reliable, repeatable, and high‑quality product output.


 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Responsibilities scale depending on candidate experience (Engineer III vs. Senior Mechanical Engineer).


 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


Mechanical & Production Support



  • Diagnose mechanical and assembly issues; perform detailed root cause analysis; implement corrective and preventive actions.

  • Serve as a technical point of contact for production, quality, and electrical engineering teams.

  • Provide technical leadership and act as escalation point for high‑impact mechanical or systemic issues (Senior‑level responsibility).


Design & Documentation



  • Develop and approve 3D models and 2D fabrication/coordination drawings.

  • Maintain, update, and improve mechanical design standards, material specifications, SOPs, and work instructions.

  • Review, approve, and govern critical standards and procedures (Senior‑level responsibility).


Continuous Improvement & Risk Mitigation



  • Identify recurring issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Lead high‑risk root cause investigations, eliminate systemic deficiencies, and institutionalize lessons learned.


Technical Mentorship



  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers (Engineer III and Senior).

  • Lead cross‑functional technical discussions and serve as SME for complex mechanical systems (Senior).


Project Leadership & Cross‑Functional Collaboration



  • Lead MOL engineering projects with varying complexity depending on level.

  • Collaborate with project managers, customers, and cross‑functional teams to meet quality, specification, and timeline requirements.

  • Lead complex ECNs, major field updates, and systemic improvement initiatives (Senior‑level).


 


COMPETENCIES:



  • Advanced understanding of mechanical systems, tolerances, fasteners, alignment, and structural components.

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability.

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD; FEA experience preferred.

  • Strong verbal and written communication.

  • Experience with root cause analysis and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, CI, Six Sigma).

  • Experience with medium‑voltage switchgear or power distribution equipment (preferred).

  • Knowledge of UL, CSA, and NEMA standards (UL 891 / UL 1558).


 


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


Experience expectations vary by role level:



  • BSME or equivalent required for all levels.

  • Engineer III: 3–7 years of experience leading MOL or mechanical design projects.

  • Senior Mechanical Engineer: 5-7+ years of experience, serving as technical Lead or SME

  • EIT certification or progression toward PE licensure preferred.


 


COMPENSATION:


Compensation for this role varies based on the location & engineering level (Engineer  III or Senior) for which the candidate is selected. Salary ranges are:



  • Mechanical Engineer III: $95,000 – $130,000

  • Senior Mechanical Engineer: $120,000 – $182,000
