IMEG is growing, and we’d love to have you join our team!   We are currently seeking a Project Surveyor 2 in our Bozeman or Billings, MT office. As a Project Surveyor 2, you will be responsible providing production surveying duties, applying diversified knowledge of principles and practices in areas of land surveying related fields. As a Project Surveyor 2 you will be providing surveying assistance under leadership from a Senior Survey Coordinator or Senior Land Surveyor. The Project Surveyor will also be responsible for calculations and surveying judgment based on surveying experience, documented practices, systems, and examples which will be reviewed by a Senior Survey Coordinator or Senior Land Surveyor. 

Some key duties and responsibilities include:

•    Perform complex survey duties associated with construction stakeout and boundary, topographic, and as built surveys.
•    Research historic maps, land records, previous surveys, and land title reports
•    Complete boundary reductions and mapping/topographic field reductions in CAD/survey software.
•    Download, maintain, and verify accuracy of project survey data and manage survey database.  Review survey production and final products, processed data collection, and field notes for quality control.
•    Proficiency with survey computations, staking/control exhibits, and survey crew instructions for construction staking and field survey projects.
•    Knowledge for the operation and assistance of operation of GPS equipment, total stations, levels, data collectors and other survey equipment.
•    Lead CAD Techs in preparing plans and plats describing in detail the surveys performed.
•    Maintain professional and productive working relationships with all clients and coworkers.
•    Mentor and assist in training junior staff members.
•    Operate a company vehicle and observe safety and security procedures.

Key skills and abilities needed for the position are:

•    Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays.
•    Advanced knowledge of land surveying operations, computations, principles and practices.
•    Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering plans and construction documents.
•    Knowledge and ability to deal with public and governmental agencies, manage field crews, and schedule equipment and supplies.
•    Proficient in on-site office operation, office workflow processes and problem-solving techniques.
•    Advanced understanding of survey operations and identification of potential problems.
•    Proficient with AutoCAD C3D, survey, GPS, MS Office software.
•    Problem solving techniques.
•    Possesses oral and written communication skills.
•    Ability to effectively communicate with clients, officials, contractors, coworkers and professionally represent IMEG.
•    Valid driver’s license with ability to be insured by IMEG carrier.

Education and experience requirements are:

  • Bachelor’s of Science (BS) or Associates Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required.

  • LS License required.

  • 6 years of experience minimum required, 7 preferred, in the Surveying Construction Industry.
