About this role

Scope

The Civil Engineer of Distinction is a recognized technical expert, both inside and outside of the firm. The position focuses on the strategic implementation of team initiatives that center around technical expertise and quality. While the main focus is not on clients, the person fulfilling this position has great influence on our delivered product and the reputation that is formed in our client’s eyes with respect to our quality, innovation, and technical expertise.

Principal Responsibilities

• Provide guidance to Team members of their discipline to meet the technical engineering needs for projects
• Serves as a technical resource for resolving field issues on projects, must be able to visit project sites and resolve technical issues with very little assistance from other senior staff
• Participate in promotional activities that establish IMEG as a technical expert, including items such as speaking at conferences, participation on national technical boards, writing articles and whitepapers
• Makes major design recommendations and design decisions with little input from senior staff
• Plans design work by discipline for all project sizes and assigns duties to staff working on projects
• Reviews correspondence prepared by junior staff
• Actively leads in quality control process for Team projects
• Contributes to leadership in some aspect of our Technical Operations Team for both large and small projects
• Acts as an advisor and analyzes technical problems/writes reports
• Plays a significant role in project reviews for quality control for large complex projects

Required Skills/Abilities

• Mastery of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
• Expert level mastery of technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in Civil Engineering; Demonstrated aptitude to lead design efforts for large and highly technical projects
• Strong training, mentoring and leadership skills
• Ability to mentor, motivate, and lead others
• Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
• Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to travel up to 25% with occasional overnight stays

Education and Experience

• Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required
• 18 years of experience minimum required, 20 preferred, in the civil engineering consulting industry
• Professional Engineer (PE) License required

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds
• Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull
• Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises
