Bioinformatics Scientist 2

Location: Cambridge – Onsite or Hybrid

We are seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist 2 to join our team based in Cambridge.


If you have a passion for genomics and a Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field, this is your opportunity to advance your career within our Clinical Translational Research team based in Cambridge.

The role

You will provide expert support for the analysis and interpretation of clinical research tumour samples, build and maintain analyses pipelines and assist in the development of Illumina’s products in the oncology space.

You’ll work on projects that shape the future of cancer care and help bring whole genome sequencing into clinical practice.

What you’ll do:

  • Analyze and interpret NGS data from clinical tumor samples.
  • Collaborate across teams to deliver end-to-end workflows.
  • Develop and maintain analysis pipelines and assist in creating novel tools that add clinical value to cancer genomes.

What we’re looking for:

  • Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, or related discipline.
  • Proficiency in R/Python and Unix/Linux (essential).
  • Experience with whole genome sequencing data analysis, including variant calling and QC (essential).
  • Knowledge of cancer genomics and somatic variant calling (a plus).
  • Familiarity with HPC or cloud environments like AWS (desired).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present scientific ideas clearly to internal and external stakeholders
