Your team 

We are IG UK's Crypto product engineering team, having successfully delivered the company's #1 strategic priority - a fully licensed, FCA-regulated crypto trading platform launched in December 2025. We maintain elite engineering standards through cloud-native AWS architecture, comprehensive observability, and a culture of end-to-end ownership where engineers drive product outcomes, not just technical deliverables.

Your role in the Team’s Success 

Your primary responsibility will be to serve as the technical authority within your domain – the engineer that others turn to when facing their most complex challenges. You'll tackle complicated problems and features that require advanced technical expertise, with little to no supervision. You won't just write code – you'll produce it in challenging timescales while maintaining the highest quality bar. You'll leverage AI-assisted development tools as a core part of your workflow – we expect engineers to actively embrace AI to multiply their impact.

What you'll do 

• Own end-to-end delivery of technically complex features – from design through deployment – taking accountability for performance, reliability, and engineering quality 

• Lead the implementation of architectural designs within your team, working closely with architects to translate vision into production-ready code that actually works at scale  

• Proactively discover new technologies and engineering practices that could benefit the team – and champion their adoption where they'll make a real difference  

• Remedy gaps in technical knowledge or engineering best practices within your team – raising the bar across all aspects of software engineering  

• Mentor team members and actively share expertise – you're sought out by others for guidance on all aspects of software engineering 

• Embrace the challenge of working on technologies and codebases that you're unfamiliar with – you see new challenges as opportunities to grow 

• Work closely with the engineering manager to drive technical excellence and continuously improve engineering standards across the team 

Who we're are looking for? 

For this role, we're looking for someone with: 

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record of delivering complex technical solutions 

• Deep expertise in your core technology stack – you don't just use the tools, you understand them deeply 

• Battle-tested experience building and operating high-performance, mission-critical systems – you've debugged production issues at 3am and designed solutions so they never happen again 

• Experience with AI-assisted development tools is expected – we're looking for engineers who see AI as a force multiplier, not a threat 

• Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop other engineers – you get genuine satisfaction from helping others grow and raising the technical bar 

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience 

• Solid backend architecture chops: distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architectures, and API design aren't buzzwords to you – they're daily tools

• Intellectual curiosity that drives you to embrace unfamiliar technologies and codebases – you see new challenges as opportunities, not obstacles  

• Strong English-language communication skills and the ability to work effectively in globally distributed, cross-functional teams  

• A keen interest in ongoing learning, both business and technical – you'll gain deep understanding of IG's trading products and financial markets  

• Familiarity with financial services or trading platforms is highly desirable but not essential 

• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation – because you build it, you run it, you love it  

• This is a hybrid position (3 days onsite, 2 days remote work)
