About this role

IDEAL ELECTRIC COMPANY, a 122-year-old, independent American manufacturer of high-power, specialty electric motors, generators, power systems and controls seeks an experienced candidate who is a highly organized self-starter capable of working in a fast-paced, multi-discipline team environment with the ability to manage competing priorities to achieve company goals while upholding a culture of ethics, integrity, and excellence in everything we do. This position is based in our facility in Mansfield, Ohio and plays a key role throughout our product lifecycle through design, supply, manufacture, and customer application for both manufactured products and aftermarket services.


OVERVIEW:  Through use of work instructions, shop orders, engineering specifications, wiring and schematic diagrams and standards, the Test Floor Assistant aids in the inspection and testing of all rotating, control, switchgear, and transformer apparatus through all phases of the manufacturing process to ensure units meet required specifications and customer requirements.   This full-time role is based in Mansfield, Ohio working closely with, and reporting to, the Test Floor Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Inspect and test all rotating, control, switchgear, and transformer apparatus through all phases of mfg. process
  • Remove and install covers and adjust brush assembly to perform required tests
  • Select, connect, and secure electrical equipment, circuitry, and/or mechanical means to operate or load equipment for testing to accomplish data required by internal departments and customers
  • Set up and test 2-bearing or non-coupled rotating equipment
  • Make routine high potential grounds and short tests; conduct vibration analyses and record results
  • May install, adjust, align, or remove belts, pulleys, or hold-downs within a test sequence, and may check/add/drain oils and lubricants.
  • Record and report test results from readings of various meters and analysis equipment, making necessary calculations and adjustments mechanically or electrically according to testing standards
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
  • High School diploma or certified equivalent
  • Experience in a heavy manufacturing environment is required; a focus on large motors, generators, and rotating equipment is helpful
  • Ability to work from engineering specifications, wiring and schematic diagrams, and standards
  • Working knowledge of electrical testing equipment and computers
  • Experience operating various manufacturing equipment, forklifts, and overhead cranes is helpful
  • Technical literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 suite, and ERP and CRM software
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving capability
  • Experience working with customers and vendors in a B2B environment
  • Teamwork approach with excellent communication skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and time-management skills
  • Ability to use the following: test stand and fixtures, variety of power sources and equipment to drive or load equipment on test, variety of metering, gauging, recording and analyzing equipment and distribution controls, hand tools and power hoist.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND WORK HOURS
  • Daily minimum of eight hours; 40 hours per week
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays, and nights
  • This position generally operates in the manufacturing areas of the facility
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, copiers/printers, and phones


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
  • is required to stand, sit, walk, push, pull, bend, crouch, crawl, kneel, and balance
  • will be required to ascend and work from ladders, platforms, scaffolding, and stairs, and to lift and/or move weights of up to 50 pounds unrestricted with regularity
  • is occasionally required climb heights of up to 20 feet
  • must be able to exhibit specific vision abilities required by this job which include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Although rare, occasional travel may be necessary in this position.  In such cases, the employee may be required to:
  • obtain and maintain a valid passport and US-issued driver's license
  • maintain a driving record that is acceptable for coverage under the company's insurance plan
