About this role

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Construction Quality Engineer to work in our Environment, Safety, Health and Quality department. Our team works onsite with a 4x10 schedule located out of our desert site Central Facilities Area (CFA) in Idaho with every Friday off.

You will report to the Construction Quality Manager, and you will support the INL Quality Assurance organization as assigned to support construction activities at the INL.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Review construction and engineering specifications and related documents, work planning, operation and maintenance instructions, and procurement documents for compliance to Program/Project and INL quality requirements; provide recommendations for solutions to quality compliance and implementation issues; determine appropriate inspection hold points in processes and procedures, and prepare inspection plans; issue and track nonconformance and other deficiency reports through closure; oversee configuration and records management activities.
  • Develop and continuously improve QA plans and procedures; provide improvement suggestions on INL quality-related documents; interface with and provide quality-related input to technical staff and management, and interface with internal and some external customers and participants in quality-related matters.
  • Conduct independent QA assessments and surveillances with peers and management to ensure that facility project activities and related documentation maintain consistency.
  • Maintain proficiency and required training and qualification for quality engineering responsibilities and participate in professional development activities.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Level 2: Bachelor of Science in a quality related technical field, plus 2 years of applicable quality/engineering/field inspection or related experience or a Masters of Science in a quality related technical field.
  • Level 3: Bachelor of Science degree in a quality related technical field, plus 5 years of applicable quality/engineering/field inspection or related experience, or Master of Science degree in a quality related technical field plus 2 years applicable quality experience
  • Must be able to qualify as an INL Quality Engineer within 90 days of employment and have education and experience to support such.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Desired Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong foundational knowledge in Soil Mechanics, Structural Engineering, Site Preparation, Pavement Construction, and Concrete

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, use hands to handle materials, manipulate tools, keyboard, and type, reach with hands and arms, and operate job related equipment. May be exposed to heights, stairs, UV (sun exposure), and radiation work. May be exposed to hazards associated with equipment including ladders > 6 feet, machines/electrical hazards, lasers, and motor vehicle usage. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Job Information:

  • Salary Grade: The pay range for this position is Level 2 ($66,504min - $136,356max) / Level 3 ($79,344min - $162,732max). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
