Job Summary

This role is responsible for the timely and accurate settlement of power purchase and sales transactions, including the analysis and reconciliation of contractual information and data, evaluation of systems capabilities, as well as the development of tools and procedures to handle new or non-standard transactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide detailed analysis in reconciliation and settlement of company trading books for a variety of complex power transactions including tolling, capacity, firming and shaping, transmission, balancing, and bucket deals
  • Analyze and resolve discrepancies to ensure trading books reflect final trading positions and prices
  • Decompose complex trading and asset contracts in order to account for and settle component parts
  • Assist with preparation of monthly power trading book forecasts for inclusion in companies flash operating results and general ledger month-end closing
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain sophisticated spreadsheet models used to value energy assets and contracts
  • Manage a number of energy contracts and ensure all activities are in compliance with contract provisions
  • Work closely with internal departments on implementation issues and participate in contract negotiations representing settlements as needed
  • Monitor and analyze market performance and market updates related to trading operations and settlements
  • Translate ISO policy changes into market settlement infrastructure design and processes
  • Guide team members in identifying root causes of systemic data issues and recommends solutions
  • Assist with preparing and managing daily margin status and agreements for power
  • Provide assistance to Settlements Manager in evaluating and testing system enhancements and other matters as requested
  • Adhere fully to internal controls and continually assess control design and effectiveness
  • Demonstrated ability to structure a data analysis project and deliver against specific project goals
  • Maintain thorough understanding of company’s energy management systems and develop tools necessary to enhance capabilities or mitigate deficiencies as necessary

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting or related field with a strong background in financial analysis or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5 years’ experience in the energy industry or other applicable work experience relevant to responsibilities of this position (the company may consider a candidate with less experience at a lower level)
  • Must be a self-starting and motivated individual who is able to effectively manage priorities while meeting deadlines for deliverables
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Thorough knowledge and previous experience with one or more information systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced excel skills
  • A knowledge and understanding of the electricity industry or other similar business
  • Thorough knowledge of energy systems performing energy analyses for renewable energy market in organized power pools such as ERCOT, MISO, CAISO, and PJM
