POSITION:  Gas Fitter - Fully Qualified, 2/C Acceptable

NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 1

LOCATION: RGE - NY - Rochester - West Ave (Shop Department)

HOURLY RATE RANGE: $20.05 - $54.16

Overview:

A Gas Fitter is committed to safety and safe work practices.  These individuals are responsible to ensure the safety of themselves, coworkers, the general public, and Company property.  They know and apply the fundamentals of natural gas and are sensitive to the hazards involved in this discipline.  They ensure the safety and reliability of the gas system.  They demonstrate the ability to competently and effectively perform the duties of their job including the skills to perform the operation, maintenance, and construction of the gas system.  They work closely with others in a team environment including interaction with employees, customers, agencies, and trade allies in the performance of their duties.

Duties:

1. Safely and effectively performs any and all work associated with the operation, maintenance, and construction of the gas system. 

2. Must have had at least three years experience in gas construction and maintenance and/or have completed a formal training program and/or the ability to demonstrate these skills on an appropriate test.

3. Must be able to understand and diagnose problems related to the gas system and perform the work to correct these problems.

Experience, Education and Special Information Required:

  • Must have complied with all terms of the Memorandum of Agreement Governing Gas Department Training and Job Progression.
  • Must have completed high school or obtained a High School Equivalency Diploma recognized by New York State.
  • Should have thorough knowledge of Company's gas practices and standards.
  • Must be familiar with Company's Safety Rules, approved methods of resuscitation and able to render practical First Aid.
  • Must be able to qualify for operator's licenses as required by law.

Physical Qualifications:

  • Normal health, physique and use of senses as indicated by passing the required physical examination given by a Company physician, including color perception.
  • Strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor in all kinds of outdoor weather conditions.

Personal Qualifications:

  • Must be willing to work extra and/or irregular hours as required.
  • Must be willing to work under unusual or special working conditions and surroundings, as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job.
  • Must be particularly alert in observing hazards and avoiding accidents.
