Job Description:

Job Title: Truck Driver

Department: Truck

FLSA: Exempt

General Function:

Responsible for operating company vehicles and equipment in a safe and professional manner to ensure prompt delivery of products to customers. The driver is required to unload and load trailers as dictated by the customer and complete the appropriate paperwork associated with driving duties.

Accountable and Reports to: VP of Transportation; Transportation Manager; Assistant Transportation Manager; Truck Department Manager

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to maintain physical requirements of the job as dictated by federal driving guidelines.
  • Must be able to pass warehouse simulation test.
  • Operates semi-tractor and trailer in safe and professional manner to scheduled destinations.
  • Meets scheduled delivery times.
  • Performs all customer service duties at customer locations including unloading, delivering special orders; delivering pharmaceutical orders; returning of authorized merchandise to the distribution center and other duties deemed necessary by supervisory personnel.
  • Required to fuel and hook equipment; conduct pre and post-trip inspections; monitor equipment functions and report defects to truck shop personnel.
  • Responsible for all paperwork including but not limited too: daily logbook, load information sheet; pharmacy check-in; pre and post-trip inspection sheets.
  • Assumes all driver responsibilities as specified in Federal Motor Carrier Safety Handbook Rules and Regulations.
  • Reports to work as scheduled and on time.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cleaning of trailer when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  • Must have the ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; write identifying information.

Education and Experience:

  • High school or equivalent work experience.
  • Accredited truck-driving school preferred.
  • Must be 21 years of age and either be graduate of truck driving school or have at least one-year over-the-road driving experience.

None

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to perform medium work: lifting 20-50 pounds of force occasionally and 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to sustain long periods of sedentary work.
  • Must take and pass warehouse fitness test, drug screen and hearing test. Must take and pass required Department of Transportation tests including possessing valid CDL and be DOT certified.
  • Visual requirements include clarity of vision at distance of less than 20 inches and up to 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision. Requirements are listed in DOT handbook.
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, stooping, sitting, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions:

The duties of this position are performed in warehouse, retail and outdoor settings. There is exposure to noise, dust, dirt and equipment including batteries. There is exposure to temperature extremes including all weather conditions.

Tractor, trailer, straight truck, log book, 2-wheeler, track for unloading, carts, load locks, powered pallet jacks and hand pumping jacks, dock plates, reefer unit, fueling equipment, hooking equipment, radio, phone.
