Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Data Governance COE Director to lead enterprise data governance and safety and controls initiatives. This role provides strategic leadership and program oversight to ensure data is managed ethically, securely, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. The Director will drive maturity across core capabilities, embed accountability, and enable the organization to confidently leverage data as a strategic asset. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership for an enterprise program that advances data governance and protection capabilities across the organization
  • Define the multi‑year roadmap, operating model, and success measures for data governance and privacy maturity
  • Establish program governance, funding plans, resourcing, and cross‑functional delivery structures
  • Design and maintain the requirements for policies, controls, and procedures that align with legal, regulatory, and business requirements
  • Partner with technology, cybersecurity, risk, compliance, legal, and business leaders to embed governance into operations and delivery lifecycles
  • Develop KPIs and reporting that demonstrate compliance posture, control health, and audit readiness for senior leadership
  • Drive maturity across critical capability areas, including:
    • Enterprise Data Protection and Compliance (privacy, regulatory alignment, PCI readiness, records retention, and third-party data risk oversight)
    • Data Management and Accountability (classification, lifecycle management, reporting, and role clarity to improve visibility, control, and audit readiness)
  • Lead organizational change management efforts to drive role clarity, training, and adoption of new ways of working
  • Provide business leadership for data governance and protection initiatives by ensuring program-level monitoring, maturity tracking, and issue escalation are in place, and by holding delivery teams accountable for remediation and risk reduction.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Data Management, Information Systems, Law, or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years of experience in data governance, data management, privacy, and/or protection, ideally in a leadership role.
  • Must have hands on management experience with a proven track record of leading and growing successful data teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience implementing governance frameworks in complex, regulated organizations
  • Strong knowledge of data privacy and security regulations and standards such as GDPR, CPRA/CCPA, GLBA, FFIEC guidance, and PCI DSS
  • Demonstrated success leading cross‑functional programs that integrate policy, controls, technology enablement, and change management
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and negotiation skills
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to influence, drive change, and deliver measurable outcomes
  • Familiarity with data classification, retention policies, third‑party data risk, and audit reporting
