The Role

Specific to this position:

The position will support plant maintenance and building construction.  Responsibilities may include drafting blueprints, supervising construction projects, and ensuring compliance with legal and environmental regulations.  Other responsibilities of planning, designing, and overseeing the construction and maintenance of various structures and infrastructure, including roads and sewage systems. This position would coordinate with consultants, contractors, and local enforcement agencies to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.  The ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of civil engineering principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work with a team or professionals from different disciplines.

 

Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience; 
Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience; 
Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
