About this role

POSITION SUMMARY
To provide nutrition lifestyle education programs for individuals and groups. To provide nutrition care planning and support to patients (either hospitalized or out-patients).
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education: B.S. or B.A. degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics or Home Economics with a major in Foods and Nutrition or dietetics.
Minimum Work Experience: None
Required Licenses/Certifications: Registered with Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association. Licensed as a Dietitian by the State of Texas.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on the physical, psycho/social, education, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served in the employee's assigned area/department. The skills and knowledge to provide such care is gained through education, training and/or experience.

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
1. Demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to the HMHD Compliance Plan.
2. Conduct reflects HMHD's values and a commitment to HMHD's Code of Conduct.
3. Attends the required corporate integrity and compliance training and education programs.
4. Demonstrates proficiency in understanding the materials presented during the corporate integrity and compliance training and education program.
5. Complies with all HIPAA standards.
6. Assess and supervise the nutritional care of the critically ill/nutritional risk hospitalized patient of all ages, infants (excluding newborns), children, adolescence, adults and geriatrics served in her assigned units. Charts nutrition support recommendations and plans in the medical record and assures quality nutritional care.
7. Provide appropriate nutrition support for patients and enters procedures in the medical record. Includes calculation of modified and metabolic diets, enteral feeding and total parental nutrition.
8. Assists with appropriate patient menu program to ensure patient satisfaction and diet accuracy.
9. Participates in quality improvement studies/audits.
10. Evaluate needs and provide input to the nutrition care plan for discharge planning.
11. Teach modified diet instructions to in-patient and out-patients through both individual and group instructional sessions to include preparation of modified foods.
12. Participates as team members with specialty groups at HMHD such as cardiac rehab, diabetes support group, etc.
13. Teach normal nutrition education and special interest nutrition programs to groups of individuals through classes at HMHD.
14. Assists with development, implementation and monitors inservice education programs for patient services staff to provide documented and continuing education and training.
15. Assist with the implementation and evaluation of test trays, food tasting, portion control and tray line checklist programs to ensure high quality meals served at the appropriate temperature and in an attractive manner.
16. Participate in HMHD sponsored community activities to provide nutrition information.
