Strategic Fund Solutions 

 

The award-winning London based Strategic Fund Solutions manages the Bank’s relationships with Venture Capital & Private Equity firms in the UK & EMEA. The team is responsible for providing a large range of debt and banking products, to suit the individual needs of their wide-ranging client base which stretches across the funds eco-system. From emerging first-time managers to large established firms; from Venture Capital managers, to Buy-out, Fund of Funds, Secondaries, Private Credit and more; the SFS Team have a wide and varying product base to support funds, firms and their partners, in each individual sub-sector of the industry.  

 

The Program 

 

The Associate Development Program runs for 18-months and consists of three 6-month rotations in each of the three pillars of the Strategic Fund Solutions team: Business Development, Relationship Management and Portfolio Management, ensuring you receive a holistic view of the entire practice.  

 

You can expect a significant amount of hands-on activity with the client base from day-one, working with clients across a range of different strategies and sectors. Structured training will focus on building skills and knowledge in the following areas: 

 

  • HSBC Innovation Banking & Industry orientation – business lines, innovation ecosystem, venture capital and private equity. 
  • Financial Analysis. 
  • Credit Underwriting & Structuring Debt Facilities 
  • Products – Debt, FX, Cash Management. 
  • Portfolio Management – monitoring the performance of our existing borrowers? 
  • Systems and processes. 

 

Your work will involve conducting due diligence on potential clients, performing market research, managing loan portfolio risk, underwriting new deals, identifying and resolving compliance issues, assisting with client-focussed events and providing client support.

  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills. You may have general financial analysis skills and the ability to read and understand financial statements. You can explain complex situations with ease. 
  • You love to learn and tend to pick things up quickly. 
  • You enjoy a challenge and thinking outside of the box, not giving up easily and if you don't know the answer, you strive to find it. 
  • A demonstrable enthusiasm for innovation (tech/life sciences) and investors into innovative sectors. 
  • You've earned a bachelor’s degree and may have some work experience already.
