Job Title:AVP FSO and SM 

Purpose of the role

  • Finance Systems Operations (FSO) & System Maintenance (SM) team plays a pivotal role in the upkeep of applications used by Finance & Risk users across HSBC Group. The team provides various services with a mix of technical and functional expertise like Change maintenance, Accounting & Business Rule Maintenance, Reconciliations, Exception reporting, Incident management, Access Management, Reference Data maintenance, monitoring platforms / system performance and also acts as a helpdesk in resolving issues raised by users and provides training to users when needed on applications supported. Also identifying opportunities to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness and supporting the implementation of change programs across Systems
  • The role AVP-AFR Systems Maintenance is responsible for providing SME support to users, Query Management, Data Quality checks and reconciliations, Business Rule Development, performing Impact Assessments on CRs and coordinating with IT for platform incidents and evergreening. The role also involves stakeholder management, working with project team for smooth BAU transition of new systems and processes, assist in process re-engineering, testing strategies and training team members

In this role, you will:

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities (e.g., for Business, Customers and Stakeholders; internal control environment, etc.)

  • Effectively Perform and Review Reconciliations and Data validations.
  • Identifying reconciliation exceptions and prepare Corrective Action plan.
  • Thoroughly Investigating and escalating any discrepancies on time
  • Lead Accounting Period Control changes for GL and/or Financial Reporting changes for Consolidation
  • Efficiently Perform Reference Data and Inbound/Outbound Rules maintenance.
  • Provide Strategic advice and governance over SDI / Consolidation and Other Change implementation releases
  • Developing test strategies and plans and management of user acceptance testing
  • Participate in testing and support end users for UAT / Go-Live approval
  • Interact and Coordinate with stakeholders for user requirements
  • Interact and Coordinate regional Finance teams in compiling project related information, offering guidance as needed.
  • Effectively Manage incidents and User queries.
  • Strategically Manage ad-hoc tasks as required.
  • Assess and Update/maintain the Process manuals and Standard Operating Processes.
  • Oversee and analyze production system support tasks performed during Daily, Monthly, Quarterly and Year-end close.
  • Provide functional SME input for the Finance Operations supporting the line finance users and business partners.
  • Manage production issues & resolution and communicate & escalate any challenges to Finance/Business Users, Regional IT teams in a timely manner.
  • Provide strategic oversight and guidance in activities includes assisting in UAT of new enhancements, transition of changes from project to BAU and other advisory roles.
  • Coordination with IT and other pertinent upstream and downstream
  • Provide expert-level guidance and advisory oversight on the resolution of Complex User Queries.
  • Proactively identify, manage, and report on existing and emerging risks/issues, ensuring appropriate mitigation plans are in place and regularly reviewed.
  • Review and provide documentation for internal audits, coordinating with stakeholders to address any gaps or areas for improvements as required
  • Ability to support Business & FSO management with timely system updates.
  • Partnering with the Change team with various system updates and changes.
  • Responsible for the coordination and governance of controls used in the system.
  • Has the ability to standardize a process by suggesting the best practices.
  • Ensure Strict governance will be observed in accordance with FIM standards.
  • Conceive Ideas and spread awareness of implementing various automation tools to reduce manual efforts.

To be successful you will:

Functional Knowledge

  • MCA / BE / MBA / M Com. Qualified Accountant (Chartered, ACCA or CIMA) with overall 12+ years of experience
  • Understanding of Financial and Non-Financial Metrics used for the business performance.
  • Understanding of the different Financial and Non-Financial (Front End) systems
  • Understanding of high-level data flows (Record to Report)
  • Understanding of user needs and ability to articulate visions through documentation and presentations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator
  • Ability to identify and raise escalations.
  • Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to facilitate and negotiate prioritization with users and stakeholders.
  • High level understanding of BI / visualization tools (Qlik Sense etc.)
  • Agile methodology
  • Understand the overall General ledger / FR Consolidation functionalities and its usage.
  • Good understanding of multiple GL systems within HSBC - FTP, Fusion. HUB, PSGL and/or Consolidation systems e.g. Saracen including architecture and data flow
  • The level of performance is in sync with the target set as per the SLA/KPI.
  • Should be able to innovate and provide out-of-box solutions to problems and streamline the processes.
  • Build and manage key relationships with stakeholders across IT and Finance
  • Ability to multi-task and may be required to help in business as usual of similar systems.

  • Open to work on weekends on need basis.

  • The jobholder will continually assess operational risks by considering role-specific and business wide risks, considering operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology, and ensures timely, effective actions are taken when risks emerge.
