Position Summary:

 

Under the authority of the Captain, the First Officer serves aboard a U.S. Coast Guard Inspected Small Passenger Vessel under contract to the National Park Service (NPS) directly supervising and training other crewmembers in the practice of Good Seamanship, Marine Safety & Security, Watch Quarter & Emergency Station Bill, and Customer Service in a manner that enhances the Interpretive Experience of our quests and Respects the Planet.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that onboard crew work and passenger environment is as safe and pleasant as possible.
  • Supervises crew during vessel docking maneuvers.
  • Oversees others in Housekeeping Chores and Maintenance Projects.
  • Oversees vessel personnel follow safety procedures and work rules at all times.
  • Stands Underway Watches as Helmsman or Lookout and performs other vessel navigational functions as may be assigned by the Captain.
  • Tends gangway, and supervises others, in passenger handling procedures and requirements.
  • Trains deckhands in the practice of Good Seamanship.
  • Watch Quarter & Emergency Station Bill assignments and serves as the Incident Commander On-Scene In-Charge during On-Board Emergencies.
  • Wears Statue Cruises Uniform at all times while in the presence of guests.
  • Assists Captain with the completion of Company issued paperwork.
  • Additional job duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • U.S. Coast Guard Inland Masters (100 ton /six (6) or more passengers) or equivalent, Radar endorsement, FCC Marine Radio Telephony.
  • Transportation Workers Credential Identification (TWIC) Card.
  • Possess and maintain a current New York or New Jersey Driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Two (2) years of boat handling experience preferred.
  • Customer service experience.
  • CPR/First Aide Certification.
