Position Summary:

The Maintenance Team Leader is responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the maintenance team, ensuring efficient execution of maintenance tasks, and supporting operational reliability. This role acts as the first line of leadership, providing technical guidance, task delegation, and performance monitoring to ensure all maintenance operations meet safety, quality, and productivity standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate daily activities of maintenance technicians to ensure timely task completion.
  • Safety First. Be an active advocate of, and participant in the Safety Culture. Safety shall always remain the highest priority.
  • Demonstrate practical knowledge of all phases of shipboard safety procedures and knowledge of location and use of all firefighting and safety equipment (i.e., fire extinguishers, life preservers, work vest).
  • Implement and monitor Preventative Maintenance Program.
  • Develop work orders and issue maintenance and repair assignments.
  • Monitor the completion of maintenance and repair tasks by Company personnel and outside contractors.
  • Maintain machinery history.
  • Sail as watch Chief Engineer if required.
  • Understand and comply with HELM operating procedures.
  • Assign work orders, monitor progress, and ensure maintenance activities are carried out effectively.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to maintenance personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and company policies.
  • Conduct routine inspections of equipment and facilities to identify maintenance needs.
  • Support the development and implementation of preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Mentor and train team members to enhance technical skills and promote continuous improvement.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, including work orders, equipment logs, and inventory usage.
  • Communicate with other departments to coordinate maintenance activities with minimal disruption to operations.
  • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor with resource planning, performance reviews, and project execution.
  • Remain true to and champion the Company’s RESPECT Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Additional job duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or vocational training preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on maintenance experience, with at least 1-2 years in a leadership role.
  • Skills: Strong leadership and team coordination abilities; technical proficiency in mechanical, electrical, or industrial systems; excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills; strong communication and organizational skills; proficiency in maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Certifications: Relevant industry certifications are a plus.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
  • Set and achieve high standards of performance.
  • Demonstrate initiative and be able to make progress on multiple assignments under time constraints.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with fellow employees.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
