Position Summary:

The Bartender mixes high-quality beverages, provides prompt and consistent service at guest and service bars, is hospitable and cordial to guests and coworkers, acts safely and responsibly, and is knowledgeable about the vessel and the skyline. The Bartender will personally contribute to the unforgettable guest experience, be favorably viewed by supervisors and peers, and be swift and efficient in the execution of their assigned duties. Performance will be measured by evaluation of drink ticket times, guest and mystery shopper satisfaction surveys, departmental tests, and management evaluation.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 Provides amazing hospitality to guests and coworkers as prescribed in RESPECT Service System
• Accurately follow recipes for all beverages; must have thorough knowledge of all beverage offerings and prices
• Provides prompt and consistent bar service to guests and servers throughout the cruise
• Set up and break down bar - stock and restock bar according to prescribed par specifications, clean bar thoroughly in accordance with standard operating procedures
• Maintains the cleanliness and safety of the bar and all common areas and service stations, clean glasses, utensils, bar equipment, bar tops, refrigerators, and all other equipment and work areas
• Accurately charge guests for onboard purchases; enter order into the point-of-sale system, collect payment and return all change
• Returns empties to the bunker and disposes the in proper liquor & beer can boxes after the cruise
• Accurately counts bar inventory daily
• Prepare alcoholic & non-alcoholic requestion form before the event starts
• Pick up liquor, wine, beer & non-alcoholic beverages from the main storage room before the event starts
• Polish all glassware before/during/after cruise
• Beer/Wine/Liquor receiving for deliveries as needed
• Assist servers on clearing dirty glasses and clearing tables
• Take out all the garbage from the bar area and dispose properly
• Organizes the empties storage as needed
• Cleans fridges, glass machine and ice machine weekly and other equipment required
• Executes all opening and closing activities which include stocking, replenishing, wiping, sweeping and other duties as required to maintain an appealing, hygienic, healthy and safe environment for staff and guests in their designated work areas. Including the completion of all daily & weekly checklists.
• Counts money in cash drawers at the beginning of shift (sorts, counts currency and coins) to ensure that amounts are correct and that change amounts are adequate.•
Responsible for all sales transactions from selling food and beverage items to cash reconciling in an accurate and timely fashion.
• Rotates food and beverage products by practicing first in and first out procedures.
• Checks I.D. on any guests ordering alcohol who look under 30 years old. Legal drinking age 19 years old
• Assist/help team to clean common areas
• Bar operations shift as scheduled
• Provides information to guests including beverage and food menu descriptions, entertainment options, cruise route and points of interest
• Train new staff as directed by manager on duty
• Be prepared to begin work at scheduled time
• Maintain uniform and personal grooming in compliance with appearance standards
• Assist with the warm and efficient greeting and seating of guests when they arrive
• Following establish guidelines, takes initiative on work to be done
• Understands all policies and procedures relating to the crew’s role within the company.
• Other duties as assigned by the manager or supervisor on duty

 

Requirements & Qualifications:

• One (1) year of bartending experience required
• O.S.S.D. or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education
• Smart Serve Certification required
• Energetic and enthusiastic personality essential
• Must be able to effectively understand and convey written and verbal information to guests and coworkers
• Must have comprehensive knowledge of beverage recipes
• Basic computer skills are required
• Must possess a service orientation – actively looking for ways to help others
• Will work for extended periods of time without sitting
• Required to lift heavy items such as liquor boxes and ice bins up and down stairs
• Responsible for bar till; proper cash handling is required
• Will be required to be available for work on all major holidays and weekends
• Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift up to 40 lbs (18 kgs)
• Non-slip footwear is required to ensure safety in the workplace. Crew members must wear appropriate non-slip shoes during shifts.
• If required, wear additional assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. gloves, weather appropriate dress attire, sun protection).
