About this role

At Hormel Foods, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range.  The base hiring pay range for this role is between $20.25-$28.50 per hour, and your actual base pay within that range will depend upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skill set, level of experience, and geographic market location.

Other components of Hormel Foods’ total compensation package includes comprehensive medical, dental and vision coverage, discretionary annual increases, profit sharing, 401(k) with employer match, stock purchase plan, paid vacation, FREE two-year community/technical college tuition for children of employees, and more.

 

GRADE & YIELD CLERK – AUSTIN PLANT 

 

This position reports to the Carcass Evaluation Manager.

 

The work schedule for this position is Monday-Friday from 6:05 am or 6:25 am (rotates weekly) - approximately 3:30 pm.  Overtime is required.  Some Saturday work is required.  Flex time is not available.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The person in this position:

 

  • Accurately identifies, grades and records hog carcass data using the Hormel G&Y standards to determine their value.

  • Provides corrections to harvest statistics in order to have proper information for each lot of hogs harvested.

  • Works in hog coolers assisting in the collection of data for test hogs.

  • Accurately evaluates, identifies and weighs hog carcasses to determine the correct value for every carcass.

  • Reviews and corrects each group of carcasses prior to the final payment being made by Livestock.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Required

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to initiate appropriate action independently.

  • Ability to learn how to identify carcass hogs by grade, trimmed carcasses and degree of skinning.

  • Demonstrated problem solving and organizational ability.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with a PC, Windows and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Ability to push, pull, or lift up to 30 pounds.

  • Comfortable working in QPP on the harvest floor.
