The Information Technology Services Office (ITSO) is responsible for developing and managing the University’s IT infrastructure and information systems. We champion the effective and innovative uses of IT to support learning, research, and administrative activities. Our Infrastructure Systems team manages a broad range of advanced technologies including public and private clouds, identity and access management, server and desktop environments, web and application server farms, generative AI platforms, and High-Performance Computing (HPC) & AI clusters dedicated to research computation.

We are looking for a high-caliber individual to fill the position of Senior IT Specialist in HPC and Research Computing. The appointee is a core member of the HPC and Research Computing team, responsible for technical development and day-to-day operation support of the HPC and AI clusters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of next-generation HPC clusters, storage solutions, and high-speed interconnects.
  • Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across the hardware and software stack, from the bare metal to the application layer.
  • Troubleshot technical issues of HPC user workload, including network, storage, and computational job failures.
  • Mentor team members, guide our user community on best practices, and drive the adoption of new and emerging HPC technologies.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and frameworks to streamline system management and user workflows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems or equivalent with at least five years of relevant working experience.
  • Deep knowledge of Linux, including kernel tuning and optimization for HPC workloads.
  • Proficiency in HPC file systems such as Lustre or NFS, including architecture, deployment, and performance tuning.
  • Proficiency with HPC workload managers like Slurm and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with high-performance networking fabrics, including InfiniBand and RoCE.
  • Strong understanding of MPI, OpenMP, and the challenges of scaling applications across hundreds of CPU cores and GPUs.
  • Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese.
  • Good analytical, problem-solving and communication skills. Able to work under pressure and have good teamwork with self-initiative attitude.

Applicants with less relevant experience or proficiency may be considered for the position of IT Specialist. (Duration: 2 years, renewable)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
