The key role of the Office of Knowledge Transfer (OKT) is to encourage, support and engage HKUST research community and industry partners to create impact through innovation and entrepreneurship development. OKT manages the inventions and Intellectual Properties (IP) of HKUST, formulates commercialization strategy, identifies potential collaborators, and establishes commercialization projects with industry partners. OKT also incubates and supports HKUST start-up team and companies and provide internal funding to realize the disruptive potential of the technology and ideas. The OKT is inviting competent and passionate professionals to join the knowledge transfer team:

The Position

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President for Research and Development (Knowledge Transfer), and working closely with HKUST research institutes/centers, HKUST R and D Corporation Limited, Entrepreneurship Center, Schools and Departments, the key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Understand the overall University Grants Committee (UGC)’s Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) framework and the contents of the past impact overview statements and past impact case studies, with an eye to developing guidelines and procedures for the preparation of effective and coherent statements and case studies for the upcoming exercise.

  • Prepare and update the University’s impact overview statement articulating the context, strategy, plans and approach to impact with reference to individual impact case studies prepared by the Units of Assessment (UoAs) within the University.

  • Coordinate the collection and collation of impact evidence in collaboration with the UoAs and the Office of Knowledge Transfer (OKT). 

  • Interact with companies, the government, non-governmental organizations (NGO), and other organizations or individuals, to understand and articulate the details of the impact, and to secure evidence, such as letters or other documents, establishing the link between HKUST research and the report.

  • Support the UoAs in the preparation of impact case studies with clear references to the underpinning research and documentation of the engagement process leading to the claimed impact.

  • Preparation of impact case write-ups for management and governmental reports.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the reporting supervisor(s).

The Person

  • Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in science, engineering or business, preferably with master’s degree or higher;
  • Solid experience (minimum 7 years) and proven track records in handling research impact assessment matters, data analytics, impact overview statement and articulation of the impact case studies for RAE;
  • Technical knowledge in the field of science or engineering, and understanding the mechanism of creating impact;
  • Proven track record of liaising/communicating with the government, NGOs and industry; and
  • Good understanding of technology transfer and product/service development processes.

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided.  A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
