Summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) Mission Technologies is seeking a Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3) Engineer to support our customer, the USAFE Nuclear Operations Division (A10N), who provides network design, engineering, maintenance, and Information Assurance (IA) services in support of NC3 systems and associated security protection systems for these programs located at Ramstein AB, Germany and within USAFE AOR. The NC3 system involves the means through which Presidential authority is exercised and operational command and control of nuclear operations are conducted. The NC3 system is part of the larger national leadership command capability (NLCC), which encompasses the three broad mission areas of: (1) Presidential and senior leader communications; (2) NC3; and (3) continuity of operations and continuity of government communications.

 

The NC3 NOC Engineer will provide tactical SATCOM and network IP technical services in support of the NC3 Weapon System (AN/USQ-225) and its components located at Ramstein AB, Germany.  They will provide day-to-day support of the equipment, recurring maintenance, high-level troubleshooting, and serve as a subject matter expert (SME) to A10N Command and Control Government Leadership. 

 

What You Will Do

  • Must be able to work in 24/7 operations center.
  • Monitor day-to-day operation of systems and institute corrective actions in response to noted anomalies.
    • Perform preventative maintenance and high-level troubleshooting on the following equipment
    • AN/PSC-5C Multi-Band/Multi-Mission Communication Terminal (or most current tactical radio systems)
    • Specific NC3 (AN/USQ-225) systems located at Ramstein AB
    • GCCS-J system
    • Routing and Switching equipment
    • Fiber optics network equipment
    • Cryptographic key loading
  • Operate and maintain operational issues with network infrastructure (Layer 2/Layer 3) then implement timely corrective action.
  • Assess, evaluate, and re-engineer complex circuit/link restoration to accommodate critical communication architectural requirements.
  • In coordination with base communications maintenance technicians, address capabilities and limitations of equipment, troubleshooting procedures, security requirements and technology to install, maintain, and restore all links and circuits applicable to the NC3 systems in the 24/7 operations center.

What We Are Looking For

  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Minimum IAT II Certified (Sec+, CCNA Sec, etc).
  • Thorough knowledge of RF/SATCOM theory and maintenance, fault isolation, performance monitoring, configuration management standards, principles, and techniques.
  • Demonstrated communication skills; both written and oral concerning technical material and explaining these aspects to non-technical customers.
  • Clearance: Must possess and maintain a Top Secret with the eligibility to get a TS/SCI.

Preferred: Bonus Points For...

  • Experience as a RF/SATCOM trainer.
  • Microsoft server knowledge/certification (e.g., MCSA).
  • Network infrastructure certifications/training (e.g., CCNP, JNCIP-ENT).
  • DoD 8570 IAM Level 3 Certified (e.g., CISSP, etc).
  • Thorough knowledge of network design and maintenance, fault isolation, performance monitoring, configuration management standards, principles, and techniques.
  • Experience with network engineering in a large, distributed environment with an emphasis in secure tunneling mechanisms like Dynamic Multipoint VPN (DMVPN) or similar.
