Education
Bachelor’s degree or higher in mathematics, engineering, or a closely related field.
Experience and Training
One or more years of experience working in a math- or engineering-related field.
Preferred: Experience working with students with disabilities or in educational settings.
Knowledge, Skills, Ability
Ability to write (by hand or computer) verbatim what the student dictates, including complex formulas and technical notation.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA and university policies.
Familiarity with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, the 2008 amendments of the ADA as well as other appropriate laws pertaining to higher education and disabilities.
Ability to learn and follow relevant OARS procedures.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort using computers/tablets.
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, changing environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Attends class, labs, and assessment environments with the student and provide real-time scribing services in accordance with the student’s direction.
Produces clear, accurate, and complete written responses exactly as dictated by the student.
Maintains confidentiality of student information and all related documentation.
Submits mandatory reports in accordance with university policies when appropriate (e.g., Title IX, mandatory reporting requirements).
Performs other duties assigned that are appropriate to the position and support the mission of the Office of Accessibility Resources and Services.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to sit, stand, and write for extended periods.
Ability to work in classroom, laboratory, and experiential learning environments.
Ability to travel between campus buildings as needed.
Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with students who have varied communication styles or communication-related needs.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Reports to and is supervised by the Assistant Director of the Office of Accessibility Resources and Services.
