About this role

This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track faculty appointment with duties in the High Point University Oral Health Network (OHN) and Workman School of Dental (WSDM), which includes the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) and post-doctoral programs. Professional rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s level of experience and qualifications at time of hire.

The faculty member in Periodontology is responsible in providing patient care in OHN and educating pre-doctoral dental students and post-doctoral residents in WSDM. The position will report to the Chief Dental Officer and executive leadership team (ELT) of the Workman School of Dental Medicine.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • DDS or DMD degree (or foreign equivalent), eligible for dental licensure in the state of North Carolina
  • Completion of a CODA-accredited periodontology program in the US.

Experience and Training

  • Board-eligible from the American Board of Periodontology
  • 5 years of experience in clinical practice of dentistry is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in private practice is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in dental education is preferred, but not required.

  • Poised and professional in representation of HPU WSDM
  • Receptive to feedback, performance improvement, and continuous coaching Knowledge of HPU WSDM’s core values and mission

  • Clinical documentation, diagnosis, and treatment planning using electronic health records (EHR) such as EPIC systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

The candidate selected for this position will perform all duties directed by the Chief Clinical Officer and WSDM executive leadership team (ELT). The candidate will be expected to perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

Patient care

  • Provide comprehensive and emergency periodontal diagnosis and treatment patients seen in the HPU Oral Health Network OHN)
  • Demonstrate the highest level of professionalism, ethical-fitness, and patient-centered approach
  • Documentation of patient history, examination findings, diagnosis, treatment planning utilizing electronic health record (EPIC)
  • Comfort with digital technologies such as digital implant planning, intraoral scanning, photography, 3d printing, CAD-CAM, and CBCT imaging.
  • Be able to cover for other OHN providers, as needed.

Education

  • Serve as an attending clinical faculty for DMD and/or AEGD residents.
  • Involvement in curriculum design and pre-clinical simulation lab courses.
  • Provide continuing education courses in HPU WSDM as a content matter expert.
  • Serve as a clinician role model for learners and be able to thrive in a start-up education model.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Chief Dental Officer, Dean
  • Evaluation: Ongoing performance reviews is conducted along with an annual assessment by the CCO and includes input from the faculty and students.
