About this role

The Nido R. Qubein School of Communication at High Point University invites applications for adjunct faculty to teach courses in Journalism and Sports Media during the 2026–2027 academic year. The successful candidate may teach up to three 4-credit courses per academic year.
This position is ideal for experienced professionals and educators with strong backgrounds in journalism and sports media who are passionate about teaching, mentoring, and preparing students for careers in today’s media environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Journalism and Sports Media, which may include but are not limited to copy editing, feature writing, sports reporting, and related areas.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, practice-based instruction aligned with course objectives and School of Communication standards.
  • Use Blackboard Ultra and other instructional technologies to manage course materials, assignments, grading, and communication.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Journalism, Communication, Media Studies, Sports Media, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Significant professional experience in journalism, sports media, broadcasting, digital media, or related areas may be considered in combination with academic credentials, in accordance with SACS guidelines.
  • Demonstrated teaching ability or strong potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to student-centered, experiential learning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional experience in sports journalism, broadcast production, multimedia reporting, or digital sports media.
  • Previous university-level teaching experience.
  • Experience with industry-standard tools and platforms relevant to journalism and sports media.
  • Ability to bring real-world, applied perspectives into the classroom.

Appointment Details

  • Adjunct appointment for the 2026–2027 academic year.
  • Up to three 4-credit courses may be assigned based on departmental needs and candidate availability.
