Purpose of the Job

The Design Engineering Manager leads the Design Engineering team in Prague and oversees the technical design and engineering of retail fixtures and environments.

The role blends creative problem‑solving with strong technical expertise to transform retail concepts into production‑ready solutions that meet quality, cost, and timeline objectives.

This position acts as the link between Client Services, Concept Design, Production Managers, and the engineering team, ensuring seamless project delivery. The role includes team management, resource allocation, and hands‑on design engineering, including direct client interaction when needed.

This role operates on a blended basis between the local HH Global office, client site(s) and home as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and lead the design engineering team, ensuring motivation, productivity, and high‑quality output
• Estimate design time, allocate projects, and manage day‑to‑day activity within the department
• Engage freelance resources when required and oversee their work
• Take client briefs, schedule work, and maintain strong communication across departments
• Collaborate with conceptual designers, production managers, and client services to realize approved designs
• Produce 3D models and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks, based on approved visuals/concepts
• Sketch design solutions for manufacturing challenges or estimation needs
• Ensure projects meet budget requirements, proactively identifying cost‑saving opportunities
• Work closely with Technical Buyers/Production Managers to match designs with supplier capabilities, considering regional manufacturing differences
• Oversee prototype builds and ensure high‑quality, on‑time presentation to clients
• Create project documentation including parts lists, QC reports, risk assessments, and assembly guides
• Ensure designs meet health & safety requirements and conduct testing when necessary
• Maintain excellent cross‑department communication and share relevant project information

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Degree or equivalent in product design engineering or related discipline
• Fluent in English and Czech
• Strong experience in retail/fixture design or a similar field
• Experience of team management and leadership experience
• Strong understanding of manufacturing materials, processes, and costs
• Experience with global or region‑specific manufacturing
• Strong capability in 3D parametric CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
• Proficiency in Microsoft applications
• Ability to produce manufacturing-ready drawings and technical documentation
• Experience designing for manufacture in:

• Metal: sheet, wire, tubular fabrication, welding, finishing
• Plastic: sheet fabrication, vacuum forming, injection molding, extrusion
• Wood: fabrication and finishing

• Understanding of design development and project processes
• Positive, lateral thinker with strong problem‑solving ability - high attention to detail
